Damien Joyce is the new captain of Galway's senior hurlers.

The long-serving defender was confirmed as county captain on Wednesday night and replaces long-term injury victim Shane Kavanagh. Cappataggle clubman Joyce is himself injured at present and will miss Sunday's league opener against Wexford.

Rahoon/Newcastle clubman Tony Og Regan and Damien Hayes of Portumna are named as vice captains. As Hayes is also injured, Regan captains the team this weekend. Tweet
