Waterford referee Michael Wadding
Waterford referee Michael Wadding admits the refereeing this year's All-Ireland SHC final will be the pinnacle of his career as an official.

Wadding has been chosen to referee what could be the most historic hurling final in the history of the GAA as Kilkenny go in search of a unprecedented fifth consecutive title.

Standing in their way will be neighbours and old rivals Tipperary in what is the most eagerly awaited final in a very long time.

The Roanmore clubman has been standby referee for two All-Irelands and linesman for another, but he is going to relish his first as the man in the middle.

"I was absolutely thrilled to find out when the news came through and I'm delighted and honoured to be appointed to such a game," said Wadding.

"I suppose getting the chance to referee an All-Ireland final is akin to a player being picked to play in one so in that regard it's a huge honour."
