Hurney quits Waterford hurlers

March 15, 2010

Waterford's Gary Hurney
Gary Hurney has withdrawn from the Waterford hurling squad and is now expected to return to the football fold.

Waterford football manager John Owens was resigned to being without Hurney and fellow dual star Shane Walsh at the start of the year, but it now seems that he will have Hurney's services for the remainder of the National Football League and the Munster championship. The Deise currently share joint top spot with Wicklow and Clare in Division 4 of the National League and are in contention for promotion.

Hurney had been a mainstay of the Waterford football team before he accepted an invitation to join the hurling squad in 2008. The big full forward played two weeks ago against Galway in Waterford's National Hurling League defeat to Galway, but will be concentrating solely on football for the rest of the year.
