Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary will all be in action again today after winning their McGrath Cup preliminary round ties yesterday.
In the all-Kerry clash at Strand Road, Tralee, second half goals from BJ Keane and George O'Keefe helped the Kingdom to a 2-12 to 1-10 victory over IT Tralee.
Keane opened the scoring for Jack O'Connor's understrength side after just 25 seconds, but Brendan Moffat's 15th minute goal helped the students to a 1-6 to 0-5 lead at the interval.
Despite playing into a strong wind in the second half, the All-Ireland champions staged a fine recovery to set up a quarter-final meeting with Waterford in Austin Stack Park today.
At Kilmallock, a brace of first half goals from Ian Ryan paved the way for Limerick's 3-9 to 0-6 victory over Waterford IT.
Stephen Kelly was a late withdrawal from Mickey Ned O'Sullivan's side as he opted to play for Shannon in rugby's AIB League instead, while midfielder John Galvin was another notable absentee.
When Jim Donovan added Limerick's third goal two minutes after the restart, they led by 3-4 to 0-4 and were well on their way to a meeting with Cork IT in Foynes this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Tipperary will face Limerick IT in Thurles' Dr Morris Park today after their 2-9 to 1-9 win over UL at Sean Treacy Park yesterday. The Premier County's two goals came in the second half with Sean Carey grabbing the first before a late Peter Acheson strike sealed victory.
