Murphy withdraws from Cork hurling squad

Cork's Chris Murphy
Newcomer Chris Murphy has withdrawn from the Cork hurling squad less than two weeks before their Munster SHC opener against Tipperary.
The 24-year-old defender, who was one of the players retained by new manager Denis Walsh from Gerald McCarthy's development squad in the early part of the year, has cited illness and exams as his reasons for pulling out.
Murphy has complained of suffering bouts of vertigo since sustaining a broken chin in the NHL defeat to Waterford, while he also has important exams coming up. However, he hopes to return to the squad once fully fit and his exam commitments are no longer a concern.
His decision to withdraw comes as a further blow to the Cork management who are already planning without the retired trio of Joe Deane, Brian Murphy and Diarmuid O'Sullivan.
