Glenn Ryan takes over Longford
October 07, 2008

Kildare's Glen Ryan
Kildare legend Glenn Ryan has been appointed Longford senior football manager in succession to Luke Dempsey.
The former All Star led the Lilywhites to the All-Ireland U21FC final earlier this year in his first major inter-county management job and did enough to impress the Longford county board for them to offer him their senior job.
The Round Towers man captained Kildare to an All-Ireland senior final appearance ten years ago and is rated as one of the up and coming managers in the modern game.
The appointment was ratified at a meeting of the Longford county board last night. Ryan brings Jim Maguire, who worked alongside him at U21 level, in as trainer while Mickey Harkins and Ambrose McGowan will act as selectors.
Justin McNulty and Sean Hagan had been linked with the position prior to Ryan being offered the job in the last week.
