Ormond who cares what position you put it in Its the best competition for trying new players and integrating younger players into senior level If it wasn't there you would only have mick mouse challenge games where you don't find out if these guys are able to stepup from club level to ccounty level. You harp on about how important your November rugby friendlies are for getting your team right for the six nations but then try and demean the o Byrne cup for the same reason.

What I'm learning here is that Cork GAA is getting woefully under represented in the media!

anytime theyv played scotland for instance they normally make huge changes..made changes v us also..its rare you see all 3 of the big sides put out their very best sides..they normally try out a few players..how are the november internationals bigger?..o byrne cup is huge for some counties as only hope of silverware...why such strong attendances?...it is good for building a squad..are rugby teams the only 1s allowed to build squads?...they are on a quite an equal level the o byrne cup and the november international..can often be decent games well attended but dont matter much compared to the big competitions like the all ireland and 6 nations or world cup

26/01/2015 19:31:40 Joxer That's even more embarrassing for RTE. If there are only 5000 at PRO12 games and this is the "equivalent of the National League" then why are RTE all over it when there are only 5,000 attending some games? National league attendances will be much higher, in average, than PRO12 games yet how many live games will the national broadcaster show? There will be 20K plus at some of the Croke Park games. >Therefore, if it isn't important to the teams involved why is it important enough for RTE to cover it? Because since when did teams wishes determine viewing figures? There was a full house in Newbridge yesterday. These are all (mostly) licence fee payers and audience members are they not? So is it not in RTE's interests to screen games that will draw an audience? Sorry but the logic is baffling. It's a clear strategic decision by RTE to slant their coverage towards the egg chasers. It's undeniable I'm afraid. 5000 may be at the game but all the other provincial fans are interested on how Connacht do as it affects them with it being the same competition. The pro12 is important to the teams. There is no strategic plan to favour rugby over bog ball(only using this phrase as you are using egg chasing) There is no slanting of coverage in favour of rugby over other sports.

These games being played in hurling/gaelic are well behind the league, provincial and all Ireland championship and counties will still play loads of friendlies as well 26/01/2015 21:54:45 fabio8 see ormond its clear you have no objectivity..all you do is big up every single thing in your own prefered sport and then belittle the equivlent in other sports..why do you use this site even? Now by saying that you are admitting you have no objectivity and are completely biased

The new football/hurling season is now in its 4th week. So far RTE has failed to send even one camera to any of the early season competitions in spite of the clear interest shown by the one to two hundred thousand who have watched the games to date. While RTE is ignoring the country's most popular sports it's love affair with rugby union continues unabated. No cameras available for GAA but there was a camera team available today to watch the Irish rugby union team train. Not play just train. Plenty of shots of players standing around talking about a game that won't take place for nearly another two weeks. RTE's unbalanced coverage is now a national joke. And it's only likely to get worse in coming weeks. Promo after promo. Interview after interview. Injury update after injury update. Anything to avoid covering football or hurling.

It gets even worse. Just realised that RTE is providing live coverage of this Friday night's friendly match between the Wolfhounds and Saxons. No competitive GAA action in January but they can afford to show a rugby union friendly. Have they no shame?

---- Between the who and who? That's laughable. I suppose the RTE apologists will claim that this is the same as the Leinster Senior Football Championship. It just gets better. Seriously people don't believe that RTE are not biased towards the oval ball? If ever proof was needed well here it is. Any idea who will be covering it? I mean I just want to understand how much this D4 indulgence is going to cost the licence payer, not that this is ever a concern of our national broadcaster anyway. Where rugby is concerned there's always a few bob to send Ryle and the lads on a jollier around Europe or to some 5 star hotel in the capital, no expense spared of course.

Note sterotyping at all. Our national broadcaster is HQ'd in D4 is it not. Who said anything about rugby players?

Proof if it was needed that the GAA Chiefs are talking through their backside about how great the SKY deal has been. And to think some people swallowed what they heard and roll out this 'I can't wait for SKY to take complete control" rubbish. Hurling and Gaelic football on sky has been and always will be up there with their coverage of Speedway and the likes.

Georgia have never beaten a decent international side, have never even played Australia or New Zealand as far as I know, and when they organise a tournament in their own country Ireland don't send their international team, instead sending 'Emerging Ireland' for games that don't even count as an international cap. I would say that is enough reasons to justify calling them 'nobodies' alright hill.

Georgia aren't nobodies..... Ha ha. What a statement to make. We are talking about a sport that is the first choice sport in only 3 counties worldwide- SA, New Zealand and Wales and yet still Georgia are nobodies.
You have to give credit to the rugby authorities though. They have somehow made a World Cup since 1987. Granted it's the same teams every 4 years and it is harder not to qualify for it than it is to qualify for it but hey, don't let that get in the way.
I actually fancy Ireland to win this year's one. Obviously only if they beat the mighty Georgia first which as we all know will be next to impossible. And as an outside bet look out for the Romanians. I hear they scored 2 tries in a single match recently.
