1540927 superbluedub I didn't say that's why we lost those games.

doublehop please tell me then, why exactly did you lose those games,in my humble opinion,Dublin were a far superior team in 2009 and 2011,also may I add to your reference about Kildare getting no scoreable frees after ger brennan was sent off, what about the scorable free in the 60th minute missed by j doyle?think you need to watch the match again.have you any problems with last years defeat to Dublin?.

Very good post. I don't necessarily agree with all of it but at least you have given your reasoning and this is commendable. I think we will get 8 points-winning our four home games. Then again, we might lose all the rest of the games. As you said, all ifs and buts..

Well there is a strong possibility I will be wrong on this, as Cork do have a strong club scene and a strong pick of quality players.
To lose so many players at the one time is tough, but I feel it is nescessary.

I was very critical of Tyrone from 2010 to 2012, for not taking the hit and bleeding in enough new players. Mickey Harte has since then brought in a substancial number of younger players, and they are a better team for it.

But in saying that, even the most talented of young players need time to get up to speed with Senior Intercounty football.

Poor fare here in Mullingar, Dublins return of 6 points considering the amount of ball we've had is woefull!

Kerry are consistent with last year so far. Just need to lose the next two rounds now before we get going!

Thank God that's over, only thing to take from that was Paul Hudson, otherwise, terrible stuff!

Dublin could have won by 14 as 4. Good late entry from the Westmeath boy for Oscar nomination in attempt to get MDM sent off.

Just looking around the scores here, very good effort from Kildare, still going well obviously, great win for Derry and I expected Tyrone to win I have to say!

Great win for Derry; from what I hear they are playing some very, nice football but they always did have good footballers in the county. Dublin won at a canter while Tyrone are playing good football as well. However once again some very, very soft frees are being given out and the game is morphing into a hybrid basketball type sport. I think it was Paul Earley on Radio 1 today who said that defenders look afraid to tackle for fear of a black card. If this is the way it is going it some will eventually lose interest in it and games like rugby will benefit. There was NO need at all for this ridiculous rule; change for change sake and to justify the existence of unnecessary 'football committees'.

Nonsense, the rules were changed because managers, coaches and players wouldn't respect the rules. Some of the football on show to date has been most encouraging. If teams want to defend as a primary means of winning then let them defend away whilst doing so legally. Very poor fare in Mullingar today but Tyrone appear to be moving along nicely. Early doors though...

Great win for Derry down in Killarney today. I already said I think McIver's goal is not merely to survive in Division 1, but to make the National League SF.

3 points in the bag from the first 2 games.

Nice win for Tyrone today, the game was closer than the scoreline suggests,
and it was Tyrone's better finishing which won them the game. Mc Curry was
brilliant as was Donnelly and Morgan, and its great to see big Sean back,
overall there is room for improvement but it was a good performance.

And a nice win for Derry down in Killarney as well, they will be hard beat
this year, and I would stick a few bob on them for Ulster.

In fairness I agree with Ulsterman to a certain extent. This black card, it has the right idea, but it looks the referees don't even know how to implement it!! Have they not gotten an extensive training course on this? Black cards are been handed out already too often, for soft enough tackles. It should only be produced for very cynical play. O'Shea in my book shouldn't have gotten one last week, the Tyrone one was a good call actually even though it's a harsh one to be off for (but it is what the rules state), apparently Kerry's Crowley got given a suspect one today but the second one was correct for Murphy. It'll ruin the game if they are given so easily for awkward or slightly late challenges. Only give it out for deliberate cynical fouls and then at least players might not be so afraid to tackle. The issue is the players don't know how the refs are going to "Interpret" the tackles.

Rhubarb seany. I have watched the two games on TG4 today and yes while there has been some nice football on display, especially in the Tyrone/Mayo, game the lack of physicality and contact has been very obvious too. You can see the frustration of players who have been penalised for even laying a finger on the opposition and that is where we are at now. If that is the future of Gaelic football you are welcome to it but it's not for me. I think I will go and watch the more dangerous contact pastimes of bowls, snooker and knitting in the parlour.

Plenty of hefty tackles still going in UM

As long as you're not cynical... You can still hit anyone as hard as you like

No black cards in the Dubs game... still lots of hits and yellow cards being shown

Just don't tactically foul as a means to win a game and teams will not lose men to BC's

100% agree with Seany16

In fairness the game had reached a ridiculous stage last season, especially when Conor McManus was brought down in an All Ireland QF via a Rugby tackle.

I agree we don't want to turn into a bunch of beauty queens overnight, but removing the larger percentage of cynical play has done the game no harm. The problem with the black card was always going to be the policing of it. There needs to be consistency amongst referee's before championship arrives. The GAA needs to reinforce this with officials, that black cards offenses must be consistent game on game.

Games this year have definitely gained a more free flowing look this season.

Your entitled to your opinion but i don't see the problems en mass you speak about. The fare in Mullingar wasn't of a high standard but it was no less physical than the same type of match in previous years. The Dublin Kerry game was no less physical either. I cannot comment on the Tyrone Mayo game as i have not yet seen it.

In this case i believe even when your proved incorrect and having been seen to resort to reactionary panic, you will remain a leopard that will not change his spots. You dissagree with the rule, period. Thats fine, but there appears to be a majority of people who agree that change was needed and we will see where this implementation takes us. At the moment, i believe it has been a positive venture and by the end of the summer i think we will see some conclusive evidence.

It'll take time for it to settle down and the over the top hysteria to the black card will diminish as refs/players/supporters adapt

Big hits will continue, fair hits, yellow/red cards will still be flashed

And hopefully the pox of tactical fouling will have had it's front teeth knocked out

Defend all you want... but within the rules

It's a no brainer really...

Some can correct me if I am wrong here. Isn't deliberately pulling a player's jersey in order to stop him now a black card if seen by the officials? In the Tyrone/Mayo game in the space of 2/3 mins TWO Mayo players deliberately pulled back their Tyrone counterpart by their jersies and two frees were awarded but NO black cards. Surely under the new rules black cards should have been shown? I am not singling out Mayo by the way I am just using this as an example. Isn't this as inconsistent as you will get?

We needed that result today but still think we will struggle to stay up. We made awful lot of mistakes and team still look a bit rudderless at times but should improve with mark donnelly, sean cav and joey mc. Our forward line has moved to the stage where we don't need stevey o'neill finally and anything out of him will be a bonus.

With regards the black card it is cutting out the body check on running men which is a positive but totally stupid to say it would cut out the tackle carried out on mc manus last year. you are missing the point, if the same situation arises any game, any smart player in ireland will take him down and take the black card. Refs clearly are pulling on producing the card and giving players a yellow or ticking or second chance instead
