what is the point in filling in around croke park??no 1:it would cost millions to re-house the people behind the hill.n.o 2 millions to rent the space from irish rail n.o 3 we'd only fill it maybe 8 times a year only really depends how far the dubs get.. country people havent a clue maybe its idea's like this that has our country the way it is today or maybe its just to get at the dubs who knows..if it wasnt for the dubs ya wouldnt have the modern croke park.some people havnt a clue,im sorry feel strongly about this as a dub and a gaa man

Was on the tour myself earlier this year and the guide told me that it would never happen, he didn't explain why?
But it is quite clear that they don't know as people have been told different answers..

as far as i know its a council issue regarding sunlight to residents living behind te hill, thats why it wasn't deveoped in the first place also. nothing todo with history etc. as the hill hasn't a patch on the old hogan stand in that regard. but the good thing about the hill is you get atmosphere as it the only part of the stadium where fans aren't seperated into blocks, so a large majority of one group can congregate together and get some songs going etc...while ye can't beat croker, the atmo in the old days when had rival fans singing at each other from hill terrace to canal terrace

DOesnt the new wembley hold 90000? Well imagine if croke park had stands of the same dimensions as wembley it would obviously hold more thna 100000 as the gaelic pitch is longer and wider than soccer - then wed have the biggest stadium in the world!!!!

Stranmills as you can see the Wembley stadium has 3 big tiers and in all three there is a huge amount of rows. Id say their lower tier has twice as many rows as Croker. If croke park was completed with the hill having standing lower tier and seatin upper tier the capacity would be just reaching 90, 000

the northern folks would want to look up the dublin transport system and actually see where the dart goes...doesnt go near croke park..either does the luas :-)

TALA1986 are you sure about that? Have to agree with 2 arguements here

1) The statium does look unfinished...................... but

2)What is the point of expansion when its only filled 3 or 4 times a year anyway?

Theres no right or wrong answer to the question

yearofthelily in relation to Bayern Munich's new ground, I would be very surprised if any of their ground is terraced, as all major football grounds have to be all seater now, why do you think we had to put seats on Hill 16 when playing international football matches in Croke Park? I would also agree with getting rid of Hill 16, and completing the job with a fully seated Croke Park. As a few other people have pointed out, while Croke Park in its present guise is a magnificent stadium, there is still something unfinished about it. The best stadium that I have been in so far is the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff, but I think that were Croke Park to be completed, that it truly then would be one of the finest stadia in the world.

Having just looked at that photo of the New Wembley very kindly supplied by john_3_7, how could anybody argue against not completing Croke Park, as the Wembley is very impressive indeed.

I know that UEFA regulations state you must have seating for European Games and FIFA likewise for Internationals but not for club matches in one's country. This same rule applies to Drinking laws....if you go to watch Liverpool/United/Newcastle or whoever in the Premier League - you are allowed drink, go those same teams in Europe (well arguably not Newcastle) - you are not allowed drink.... There are a lot of football stadiums in the world that have terracing...

I think Bayern have terracing behind their goals at all German Bundesliga games.....but like in Hill 16's case when Soccer comes to town,,, temporary seating is placed...

And GAA is not Soccer... why can't we put a seated top tier above the Hill??

yearofthelily, if you read the rest of this thread you will see that question has ben answered by myself and jaffacake. There is a very good reason the hill hasn't been developed like the rest of the stadium and its nothing to do with the Dubs or the rail line.

A very snotty response from Croke Park below: a chara, If there is to be further development to Croke Park stadium, the general public will ne made aware through the media Le meas It appears as if they'd rather we all just ****** off and minded our own business! No wonder the GAA has an image problem! This is a response from their "queries" e-mail address!! How about that...

The staff in Croke Park are quite unfriendly alright. The tour guides give you one word answers when you ask them questions and that e-mail isn't far from it
