Croke Park expansion

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Not going to happen. The reason the already didnt go higher was because it blocked sunlight from the houses on clonliffe rd. There are about 30 houses there, many owner occupied with a couple owned by some very anti-GAA people. Will not sell. If the GAA was able to buy all houses it could then start to work on a plan. I dont think the railline would be too much of a problem but planning permission to knock those fine houses will be very hard to get.

Highly highly highly unlikely to ever ever happen.

Mind you, I see no problem with a terrace. A stadium shouldnt have to be all seater. The hill is very safe with all the partition barriers preventing any crush.

The hill is the best place for atmosphere. Personally I preferred it when the Canal End was a terrace also. Added more to the occasion. The stadium looks awesome now and would look even better if it was completed but wouldn't be as good for atmosphere.

thykingdomcome the sunlight issue has been mentioned a few times in the thread already, think this thread is long past a logical solution to expansion and just a 'wouldn't it be great if....' thread.

What are peoples views on having the roof swoop down to cover the hill (and echo the sound out into the stadium) similar to the new Lansdowne design?

There will be no Upper Tier on Hill 16 !! The Dubs do not want to be looked down upon !! And the Mayo / Tyrone boys might do worse on them !!

Cant be did!

I worked on the plans for Croker redevelopment years ago and the planning for such was not feasible!

1. Imagine overhang of stand to houses on Clonliffe Rd.
2. Train track nightmare
3. Buy houses on Clonliffe Rd at probable cost of €2m a gaff and the rest!....I dunno!
4. Relocation of those families
5. All the rest of it!

Get some brains lads and give up this unreal thought and take a big mouthful of practicality!!

Regards,

Snufalufagus....Laochra Gael

Hey Snuffy thers an old saying over here in the New World,' ya can't see it from Brooklyn never mind Clonmel'. Leave Croker and Clonliffe Rd as it is. Those people deserve their neighborhood to stay as it is. No need for upper tiers on the Hill-pure blasphemy and nonsense!!!

Why are so many people obsessed with having the 'best stadium in the world'? As it stands we have a fantastic stadium that is plenty big enough to cater for our capacity needs. The hill is part of GAA history and should be left as it is as far as i'm concerned

A retractable roof would be amazing. It would not happen though due to the large dimensions of a gaelic pitch

The GAA should change lower canal to terracing for finals and have seats for the rest of the games.
It would increace the number of tickets available to the participating counties in the finals. It would also bring capacity for those games to around 90k.

Its possible and can be done, no harder than a normal retractable roof.

One small thing that annoys me is the roof between the Cusack and the Canal End doesn't line up right. Now I know its a small thing but the Hogan and Canal end join up perfectly, it just looks like no-one though about the other side when designing it

squidword if you were to get rid of Hill16 you might as well scrap any connections the GAA has with Irish history and the history of Croke Park!there would be uproar, there's nothing wrong with Croker as it is

Dubinlaoise - you have some opinion of yourself. So hill 16 is the only part of the GAA in the country
that has any connection to Irish history.
