I dont think a roof would be able to be supported accross the pitch as the GAA pitch is alot wider than a rugby/soccer pitch

John3_7 the roof could easily be supported, thats not the problem. What exactly would be the point of roof when there would be a big gaping hole at the end of the pitch, would end up with a windtunnel effect and channel all the air/rain into the stadium. Croker's roof was initially designed with the idea of using it to channel air up over the pitch and deflect the rain over the Cusack stand, as you can tell it didn't work!

I think it'd be a pity to get rid of the Hill... if only because in front of it is Mayo's warm-up spot for games against the Dubs in Croker!

Completing Croke Park would make it one of the best stadiums in the world, attracting international matches, events and concerts.

The 4th stand would provide new revenue through more advertising board space, corporate boxes and premium seats.

The noise containment would be incredible and would be one of the best atmospheric stadiums in the world.

The Hill would not have to go, in Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena, the lower tier is terraced.

I have put together a photoshopped image of what it would look like completed, I think you'll love it.

I don't think it would make a difference for concerts as the stage has to go at one end. Croke Park is not big enough for the football final. It would make more sense putting money into that end than Cork. The Hill as you suggest can remain for the lower tier. The lower Davin can be revamped as a terrace, going back to tradition as well. It's extremely unlikely however that the GAA will consider such a move.

Make the Hill and Nally all seater and put a roof over it, do not go any higher with the roof as it would be objected to by residents as it would block light or views. At the moment both areas are accidents waiting to happen, i will never accept a ticket into that area again nor would i allow any of my family in there

How would you get around the train line behind Hill16?

We already have problems filling Croke Park, hence the discussions on taking more games, such as AI semi-s, out of Croke Park. It's only filled a couple of times a year as it is. Better off to spend the money elsewhere. Plenty of grounds around the country are in need of investment.

Not enough space or need for completing Croke Park
Which International matches would you look to attract?

Stages don't have to go at one end they generally do put pitch can and does be used.
Croke Park is big enough for the football final bar the odd game or two and its not going to come into the thinking of the GAA and this will never happen

The terraces there are not "accidents waiting to happen". I know you had issues but doubtful they will ever make Hill16 all seater

In the future it will come to a stage that EU law will make Croke Park an all seater, insurance reasons also

I can't see that happening not with the "safe standing" campaign around Europe gathering pace and many clubs especially in Germany now employing this tactic.

Once 1916 is over and all the pointless patriotism goes away for another 100 years then they should move the bulldozers in and finish the stadium. Anyone visiting from abroad must think its daft not to have it closed in. Train line is no excuse. Anyway there should be a station at croke park and they could do it all as 1 job. A memorial to Hill 16 out the back of the stand would be a fitting way to remember the good things about the terraces.

why? It work's fine as it is. How often was Croke Park actually filled this year? A couple of 80,000 attendences but don't think it was bursting at the seams for many games. Better ways to spend money than carrying out unneccesary works on Croke Park.

Numerous Engineers/Architects have done designs to illustrate the feasibility of completing the Hill 16 end of Croke Park having railway station built in and leaving the bottom tier as a Terrace.

I can be done easily and should have been done during the recession when construction was at a low. Being the GAA they will start once construction rates go high again and it will cost a fortune.

All-seater stadiums are grim, soulless, lifeless hellholes. There is a reason why soccer fans are hell-bent on bringing back terracing. Leave Hill 16 as it is. Croke Park is a sports stadium, not a library

Agree srb. atmosphere, standing beside you're friends/family, cheaper tickets all make sense for people to be given the option. I sit most of the week in work - i stand for watching matches. Dont care if i get wet the odd time.

Cost too much and the atmosphere at a half full Croke Park is bad enough all ready without adding another 10,000 capicity. I think where they really messed up was the section of terrace underneath the big screen in the Hill 16 end. The few rows of steps under the screen looks terrible. They should have been able to get at least twice as many rows of steps here. They then could have placed the screen above this.

I doubt it very much.

Modern German stadium almost all have terracing. Safe standing campaigns have been very successful and are seeing as the future.
