Glen sent out a serious statement yesterday, fancy them and Crokes in the semi finals and I'd see a game between them possibly in the final as a 50/50.

I'd fancy our Champions here Moycullen. Have Glen the players to pick up the Kellys (Paul and Sean), Gallagher, Conneely, Cooke and if McLaughlin gets back that is 6 players that have played intercounty with Galway in the last 2 years. Any team that beats Corofin and Mountbellew in a championship have a lot going for them. Galway has probably the hardest Championship to win in the country. Anyone from Tuam Stars, Annaghdown, Moycullen, Mountbellew, Salthill-Knocknacarra or Corofin fancy their chances every year to win Galway and more. Obviously Moycullen are there on merit and might even start the game as favourites. But The Glen already have good wins over the Tyrone champions, although I still don't think the Tyrone league/championship structure helps their champions come Ulster championship time, Slaughtneil in the Derry final, and the reigning AI champs Kilcoo in the Ulster final. They play a very modern cohesive tactical style of football. The days of a half dozen very good players winning a game for their team by themselves are long gone in Football. Underestimate Glen at your peril.

I'd say Glen will start favourites having beaten Kilcoo, particularly with the manner of how they did it. As I mentioned, they're two teams on their first journey to this stage, so it's tricky to predict. There are quality footballers on both sides and I think it'll go to the wire. Think it has the makings of a great game also! Hopefully whoever wins wins the final also.

I wonder will the Kilcoo men lower themselves now to play for the county in 2023? Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9755 - 12/12/2022 15:48:41 2450215 Link 2 |

bottom line Errigal were not good enough to be in an ulster final, But i have to say Glen are a top class outfit and fully deserved to be Ulster champions, hopefully they will go on and win the All Ireland

In fairness, if you have a good club style, a stint on the county can develop bad habits in a player. You get them back with a heap of injuries and unused to playing proper attacking football. For a small rural club with several county panellists, it's as much a curse as a blessing to have county players

I think if the kilcoo players decided to concentrate on their football, they would bring a lot to the down team..if those players don't play for one of their own in Conor laverty, there won't be much hope for anyone else.. CTGAA10 (Limerick) - Posts: 2507 - 13/12/2022 14:46:31 2450321 Link 0 |
Hopefully they'll get behind Laverty now. It would be good for football in general to see Down competing well again. They always played with a bit of swagger. As for us, who knows. All will be revealed in the new year I suppose when the league begins. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9755 - 13/12/2022 17:54:25 2450344 Link 0 |
