Last year we played Offaly in Enniscorthy so I presume it will be first round home or away

It was straight knock out last year but groups of 4 this year.

Yeah, groups of four this year, so everybody will have three matches - one home, one away, and one neutral venue. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2854 - 12/04/2023 11:41:50 2470472 Link 0 |
will make things ever more interesting, there is a great buzz about this

The groups are open draw? NY are going to be in it as well I assume - that's assuming Sligo beat them. A costly exercise for the GAA as I assume that the trave will be funded by the GAA at the same time clubs in the US will be forking out to bring lads from Ireland for their own championship. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1959 - 13/04/2023 08:58:55 2470694 Link 0 |
Open draw, but seeded. Top seeds will be the four Tailteann Cup (TC) teams that finished highest in the League this year - i.e. probably a couple from the lower reaches of Div. 2, and others from top of Div. 3 Second seeds will be the next four down, and so on. Wexford just about make it as a third seed, because there are four TC teams that finished below us in the League, and so they'll be the fourth seeds - Leitrim, Carlow, Waterford and London. New York (if they don't make the Connacht Final) will enter at the preliminary quarter-final stage. They won't be part of the groups. If New York do manage to beat Sligo, then it becomes a bit more complicated. We'll cross that bridge if we get to it! Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2854 - 13/04/2023 15:36:51 2470846 Link 0 |
is liam o connor still injuried to? whats the problem with him? Stmunnsriver (Wexford) - Posts: 2969 - 14/04/2023 17:11:17 2471009 Link 0 |
Losing to Laois now seems like a bit of a blessing. Hard to see what either team got out of yesterday's game except shooting practice for Dublin. They are on a mission, all the big names back and getting involved. Tailteann cup could be a cracker of a competition. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1959 - 24/04/2023 08:53:53 2473052 Link 0 |
there going to be some big names in tailteann now, suppose thats all they are, names now, if not they would not be there, on other hand was tailteann set up to cater for the likes of meath?

Well your talking 3 tiers of competitions then, Meath had 2 avenues to get into the Sam McGuire, League and Leinster championship and weren't good enough to take advantage of either, simple as. I wondered from the start of the year would a few of the bottom of Division 2 or top of Division 3 teams be better in the Tailteann Cup where they've a realistic chance of silverware and guaranteed spot in Sam McGuire next year compared to being in Sam McGuire this year and potentially out of their depth, Westmeath winning the Tailteann Cup last year and moreso the celebrations afterwards were the best promotion it ever got.

Meath are the only outlier at the moment - if there are surprise results Cork and Kildare could be in it as well however are they an outlier only one point ahead of Clare who were relegated but are in the Munster final so are in Sam. Given how they are going there is no reason to be backing them to win either. We will have one team ranked below us and most likely 2 teams from D3 which I think will be great for us. No point in getting promoted if we cannot compete with these teams.

Wouldn't say Cork were better than Clare I'd have them around the same Zinny.

Not the best draw possible in Tailteann Cup but if they get all players back it is not impossible to qualify. Fermanagh away in the first match is a tough ask and two ulster counties is a pity. Leitrim were probably the best of the fourth seeds as well. wexfordwin (Wexford) - Posts: 191 - 02/05/2023 13:22:24 2475037 Link 0 |
Tough enough draw all right, and there'll be big mileage in it too. Fermanagh is the furthest of the away games we could have got, and a neutral venue v Leitrim could be somewhere like Tullamore or Mullingar. The other possible neutral venue teams were Carlow, Waterford, and London, so any one of those would surely have been closer to home....unless there was a "neutral" match v London played somewhere like Cardiff or Bristol!
