Totally. And a deserved kick in the butt for the Limerick GAA county board too. There hasn't been one concert or one rugby game or one major event in the Gaelic Grounds since it reopened.

Replying To Cockney_Cat:  "I could be wrong, I was quoting from somewhere else. The capacity at Pairc Ui Chaoimh is 45,000. The attendance for the Cork vs Limerick game this year was 40,000, according to Wikipedia. Oddly enough, I cannot find any other source for the attendance for that game."
Whatever happened to the Non-Gaa Forum for non gaa sport events, just asking.

Sad to see it not even 1/4 full for gaa games yet it's full for concerts and friendly rugby games. A lot of Corkonians have turned their back on their county gaa teams.

I wouldn't agree with that, yes football attendance isn't good but the hurling often has over 30,000. Last season there was 40,000 at Cork vs Limerick

Rugbyites must be the only sports fans who could get excited about a meaningless friendly!
Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 482 - 11/11/2022 18:03:52

And why do people from other sports get so bothered about how rugby builds up its games. too many in the GAA like to dismiss everything that isnt "championship".
These kinds of games and the international tomorrow existed before any tournaments existed, pretty much. many sports treat top teams playing each other or historical sides playing each other and recognise the importance of a game even if a trophy isnt up for grabs.

Why would Munster rugby want to play in gaelic grounds? no real reason too. Playing in Pairc ui chaomh brings big games to cork that otherwise wouldnt come to the city. theres sizeable corporate seats/boxes etc in PuC that dont exist in the gaelic grounds

these so called friendlies are big deals in rugby. and treated very importantly. no need to dismiss them because in GAA they treat anything that isnt championship as second class.

very few stadiums can rely on match day income alone. they have to have concerts etc to make a profit/keep the stadium lights on...

41k, not bad for a meaningless friendly. Cork GAA, Munster Rugby and local business all made a few bob, a good nights work, hopefully more to follow.

Totally agree.

I'd love to see the Irish soccer team play a proper competitive match there I'd say the atmosphere would be brilliant but with the terracing and the FAI commitment to Aviva I can't see that happening.

Love how anti rugby people love to always emphasis matches as "friendlies". That's a soccer term, do you ever call GAA challenge games as friendlies

Well why didn't Limerick GAA put corporate boxes into the Gaelic Grounds then?

Replying To hurlorhurley:  "Is this basically similar to Ballygunners subs playing Wexford's trialists in a practise match?"
I don't know, as I'm out of touch with things, as I'm on the other side of the world. I've never seen either the Ballygunner subs nor the Wexford trialists in action. What channel would you get them on?

Like I say, I don't know. But could some kind poster please provide an answer to this fella's question? It seems like quite a simple question from quite a simple person. But as it is, and he being a Wexford person and all, he seems quite out of his depth in not knowing the answer.

As we say stateside, he's reaching out, so
could someone please try to help this obviously helpless 'hurleyorhurl'?

The Gaelic Grounds is a standard enough low cost build. Cork GAA are in debt due to the construction of the stadium that is not used too often. Cork doesn't suit too many neutral fixtures.
Munster Rugby aren't getting the support they used to in Limerick. It might suit both Cork GAA and Munster Rugby to come to an arrangement for 2 or 3 games a year.
If they want to add a more international dimension, they might try and land one of those American Football games that get hosted on this side of the Atlantic.

Cant see Pairc Ui Chaoimh getting an american football game. too many terrace spots not enough seats for an american football game.

If Dublin and Kerry or Limerick and Kilkenny play a friendly match and one or other of the teams is basically second picks, it won't be shown on national television for a start, nor a victory for one or other be made out to be some historic achievement. Just saying :-)

Do you actually think people believe you when you claim to be American...

Yes, I do. Because I am. It's that simple.

But I can readily recognize how an American knowing more about GAA matters than fellas like you TerribleFoodworm feeds your already held insecurities even more. It makes the yellow belly squirm.

I don't ever have to question that you're from Wexford. You display that like a spade.

If you want people to take you seriously then you really don't help yourself.
