Munster V South Africa Pairc Ui Chaoimh In November

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Lots of press to say that this will be confirmed this week.
Thoughts?

From The Examiner coverage of it this morning:
GAA rules now permit use of GAA grounds by other sports where the event is considered by Ard Chomhairle to be exceptional in nature and of national significance. The protocols on the use of GAA stadia were updated in the wake of the controversy surrounding the use of Páirc Ui Chaoimh in Cork for the Liam Miller tribute game four years ago.

Personally, I see no reason for it not to go ahead, and think it could be a great occasion.

Methinks Cork GAA probably need the income to cover the debt for the Pairc, so good luck to them. I'm guessing a match in November is unlikely to throw out any club fixtures, given the change in the GAA calendar.

Wouldn't be inclined to give Munster much of a chance against the Bokkies, on the form of the last several years, but in fairness unfancied Munster teams of the past have turned over the All-Blacks and Australia a few times, so you can never count them out completely.

Anything that helps the Pairc pay back it's debt is welcome- a full house. That said I cannot see the Munster branch agreeing to this. And snubbing Thomond park.

Have they checked to see if Ed Sheeran's not having a concert?

Wouldn't have a problem. Could be an attractive fixture.

Form would be irrelevant and it would be 2 relatively 2nd string sides. Any munster players in irish squad wouldnt be released while south africa wouldnt be playing all their test players as theyd be playing the weekend before and after as this will be a mid week game

Munster wouldnt be snubbing Thomond.
They would be choosing to go to a bigger ground in the province where they can sell more tickets and bring a very big game to cork which hasnt happened much recently with thomond being so much bigger than musgrave

Surely it'd make more sense financially for Munster Rugby to play it in their own ground?

why?
They can get 20'000 more people in the gate. charge more with it being a potential one off game in a stadium they wont have played in before. even with rent they'll make more from playing in cork

I know, but I'd have to fancy South Africa's second string over Munster's, it's not so long since South Africa's reserves beat the Lions. Or indeed Wales.

Didn't realise that Thomond was so small.

And snubbing the Gaelic Grounds up the road and the Limerick businesses and supporters.

A good deal for Páirc Uí Chaoimh and for Munster GAA. Any chance that McHale Park might run a few events to help pay off the debt for a stadium that'll probably never be full for a GAA match?

Great news, and something that should happen more often not just in PUC but other larger grounds as well when the need arises, Semple and Limerick need to catch up on PUC facility wise and should be opening their doors to any extra income that they can get.

Why wouldn't the Gaelic Grounds be snubbed? Mike O'Riordan hasn't done a tap regarding generating revenue for the ground. And the clubs and their delegates are just as bad for accepting all of this without even asking a question.

If Frank Murphy was in Limerick I can assure you there would be far more matches and concerts in the Gaelic Grounds. But O'Riordan and his ilk are inept and hence Limerick is getting what it deserves - the crumbs. And the clubs are to blame for election these people.

Its not really that small. 26000. Doesnt need to be any bigger for most of its games.

What extra games would either Semple or Limerick gaelic grounds get. they do need to pgrade their facilities anyway. need to get more modern
