Replying To bruffgael:  "If Frank Murphy was in Limerick I can assure you there would be far more matches and concerts in the Gaelic Grounds. But O'Riordan and his ilk are inept and hence Limerick is getting what it deserves - the crumbs. And the clubs are to blame for election these people."
Well, to a point I agree with you, but at least the games are been promoted in the County better than they ever were, and that should always be the priority. What did we need a 50, 000 Stadium in Limerick for anyway, when there were huge ones already in Thurles, Killarney and Cork. If Kilkenny with all their All Irelands could do with a 30,000 capacity, where were we going. Anyway, it was uplifting, a while ago, to see a two page Article in the Irish Independent in which Munster Rugby Top Brass complained that the rise of Limerick Hurling was adversely affecting the progress of Munster Rugby - they failed to mention, of course, that constantly signing players form the Southern Hemisphere might have something to do with it. But it was uplifting to see the boot on the other foot, shall we say.

Is the rule on foreign games completely gone now?

To be fair I'd much prefer to have the hurling team we have than a new stadium.

That said, the Gaelic grounds is a long long way behind PUC.

Well thats false. Munster sign players from southern hemisphere when there isnt players from the province ready to step up or good enough to get a contract. Limerick hurlings rise has affected munster rugby but signing southern hemisphere players isnt part of it

I didn't realise it was so small that moving the game to the Páirc would make financial sense.

Sorry to gloat but how sweet is it to see Limerick hurling putting the jinx on Munster Rugby (according to their top brass). Well long may it continue. For years the Munster lads and lassies lorded it down in the Treaty county. Will the PUC get the big South Africa match. I doubt it. Munster rugby heads are not nice people and they will fight tooth and nail to keep the match in Thomond.
Hope though the GAA does not give them reason to do this. And offer the PUC up for the match as a good will gesture.

well thats just wrong
Limerick hurling hasnt put a jinx on Munster. its hampered players coming through from limerick but not as big a worry with rise of players coming through from waterford, west cork etc
munster looked for the game in cork and wont fight to get the game in cork.
your anti other sport bias is rather pathetic and your post here is full on lies/untruths.

Apologies if the above post sounds a bit anti Munster rugby. Hope there is enough room in Limerick for both the GAA and Rugby. But past experiance has shown this is not the case. Slán libh.

Again, I'm just surprised that it's so small that moving the game to PUC makes financial sense.

I presumed it was about 40k or so.

26k to 45k and with it being the world champions and far more seats which can be charged more than terrace tickets it makes financial sense

IRFU and Munster branch will not be too keen on this move to PUC. Hope though the GAA don't shoot themselves in the foot and say no before any offer is made.
Hope also the GAA will be generous and offer the PUC. Slán

Good news.
GAA people are so precious about their stadiums, who cares if a rugby match is played in a stadium at a time of year when the GAA aren't using it?
Similarly, who cares if the local soccer team play their matches and use the same facilities as GAA clubs.
People need to grow up and stop being so insecure.
PUC is a lovely facility but unfortunately, it is a scandalous waste of money given the inability to attract neutral fixtures to the venue.
The right stadium in the wrong location. It should have been Thurles that was upgraded to that standard. Something has to pay for it.

Indeed. One man likes hurling, another man likes football, another man likes hockey, rugby, and so on.
There is a world out there beyond the GAA.

I think Thomond is the right size at 26K. Having it at 40K+ would lead to a half empty stadium for most Munster games and a much poorer atmosphere.
Compact stadiums which are able to accommodate the crowd for the majority of a team's games are the best solution, rather than those which are even close to full only once or twice a year.
