Dublin Hurling

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Another excellent win for the under 20s yesterday, Didn't get to see it but reports appear to indicate that they were much the better team and now face Kilkenny in a pretty much inconsequential game for Dublin and one in which the Cats have to win if set upon an automatic semi final spot, and in which they will again presumably be without Drennan. So I'd imagine Dublin will or certainly should regard it as a game to be won rather than an experimental run out for subs.

Dublin go straight into Leinster semi final now as guaranteed one of top spots. It is a bit of a farcical system really in that other semi finalists will be almost beyond doubt the other two Tier 1 teams!

A good win, the better team all over the pitch. Wexford can have no complaints for me.
I expect KK to have all their starters out, they will fancy beating Westmeath without them. That said, its a big ask to go to Nowlan Park to win.
Farce of a system, if you finish bottom of that group you should be eliminated.

It certainly makes it more difficult for any of the others to come through. A straight semi final with top two in Tier 1 and two top teams in 2 and 3 would have made more sense.

Offaly seem to be a good bit ahead of the others in their group so maybe not as straight forward as I thought. I assume most of that panel is from last year's excellent minor team so if they've come on, they should be decent enough.

If the bottom team in the group is eliminated they should be mixed up like u17 rather than having the perceived top 4 seeds in the 1 group.

That would be fairer. Not sure there is even any mechanism to promote a team from one tier to other?

You would have to question too why last year's minor/under 17 Leinster champions are in tier 2 on the basis of last year's under 20 form when it is surely the minor form that is more relevant!

Of course it is hard to gauge these things. It is also of course possibly beneficial to counties in the long term that they go the scenic route as it provides more experience for lads who will have been ear marked as potential seniors in the future.

Strong starting 15 named for Belfast tomorrow.

First time we have first choice forwards starting in right positions. Although I'd have Whiteley in before Suthcliffe.

Surprised to see Donoghue named at midfield. He's done well at right half and had difficult game at 8 against Tipp but MOD must see something in him there.

Going to be a tough one.

Huge game.

Antrim will have this game targeted as a great chance of a win.

Heading up and hoping for a good performance from the Dubs.

Apparently Drennan is injured.

Won't be able to go as wasn't certain I could, then too late to book the Friends bus and tickets probably gone.

I wonder will any club be doing streaming?

It should be a cracker. I've spoken to a few who reckon MOD has them well prepared for the next month, and he obviously knows a thing or two I don't! Still, am nervous and can recall many a visit that did not end as hoped.

That be a loss, They'll have TJ back for seniors, but 20s will miss him hugely and Cats need to win to avoid the prelims.

A win tomorrow sets us up for an mighty battle with Wexford for that 3rd spot. A strong team named, I think Sutcliffe brings more experience and we need his leadership.
Corrigan Park is a bit like PP in that nobody likes going there. Win tomorrow and we're set up to try and scalp Wexford or Galway in Croke Park, although the decision to move those games is sticking in my craw.

Galway beat Wexford in under 20 so Dublin assured of a semi final place regardless of result tomorrow in Kilkenny. Looks like they will be giving a few lads a run out.

Pretty sure they or Galway won't mind an extra game before the SFs anyway. Likely against Offaly. Think we will be playing Westmeath, who will provide a stern test in a knockout game.

If we beat Galway today it could end up a Dublin Wexford Leinster final. How about that for positive thinking?!!!

That would be something! Bookies have your fellas at 9/2. Galway are rightly favourites on current form, and difficult to beat down in Salthill but hardly that much of a sure thing on last year's championship form.

Worry for Wexford is that they seem to have hit a bit of a wall for some reason and although it was only a challenge game the Tipp match is not great jumping off point.

The tier one games were good as a test of where the top 4 stand but meaningless possibly when it comes to later stages.

Offaly be a good game for Galway or Kilkenny. they seem to be going well.

I like it Vivking and hope you are right.
You might need us Dubs to do you a favour v Galway in CP though, but I'm not confident of that at all. I would be in the Nell.

Disastrous start for Dublin. Were five down after Antrim goal but back to 2 at half time. Terrible conditions apparently but wind not particularly favouring anyone.

As predicted, squeaky bum time ...
