Dublin Hurling

So Mattie Kennys tenure has come to an end. An absolute gentleman. He pushed Dublin hurling forward massively with the Cuala All-Ireland wins and while his Dublin time had both ups and downs, no one can fault his commitment and integrity. Some great days - wins against Galway and Wexford stand out. It seems like his time in charge has come to a natural conclusion and its time for a new voice to bring them on again.

I hope the county dont just go for a 'big name' like Davy Fitz or some bluffer pundit. It needs to be someone who knows the club game in Dublin , maybe Joe Fortune. Eddie Brennan would be another possiblity

Whoever comes in will be facing an uphill battle when you see the best hurlers like Con & O'Donnell playing with tbe footballers (I dont see O'Donnell coming back unfortunately).

I've always thought that Dublin Hurling job is a bit of a poisoned chalice. There is talent there but you'd never fancy them to do a whole lot. It'll be interesting to see who gets it. Eddie Brennan would seem like a viable option he knows the scene there well.

Yes it is a very difficult job, they lose alot of talented players to football around minor level and even above. There is no depth in the panal and after the high of beating Wexford, they really struggled for the rest of the championship. But that said the quality of senor hurling in Dublin is very good - championship set to throw in shortly should be brilliant and some of the hurling only clubs (like Faughs) are also bringing through some excellent players.

Dublin clubs and schools have a great record in National competitions. Alot of the best of these lads end up choosing football when it comes to intercounty though.

Wonder would Eddie get the same Cody treatment that Henry got for daring to manage an outside county.

Brennan has already managed 'an outside county', Laois 2018 - 2020.

What chance does any aspiring manager from Kilkenny have of managing a county if their greatest ever sits at the helm until he's carried out. I'd say Brennan is due a shot and Dublin wouldn't be a bad platform.

Met a Wexford supporter in Pearse Stadium at the Galway / Wexford league game this year. He reckoned Kenny was finished this year with the Dubs, a new county chairman coming in and Davy Fitz is going to be the new Dublin hurling manager. Lots of €€€€€€€s

None of the people I know in Kilkenny would want Brennan as manager

Yes a team that posed no threat whatsoever to Cody, his tune could change if Eddie was managing Dublin who could potentially cause Kilkenny grief.

How many people is that, and why? There are always people who disagree with one person or another being appointed manager of a county. I'm sure there were people in Kilkenny who didn't want Cody appointed manager.
The only people who matter on these occasions are the county board, they will decide who the next manager will be, not the high stool experts.

I'd be very surprised if your CB appoint Brennan

I saw Niall Corcoran mentioned on Paddy Power at 14/1. Might be a good fit, he knows the Dublin club scene inside out with Crokes and seems to have been successful coaching with Wexford and Laois

If Davy takes the Dublin gig I'd bet good money that we'd see a big improvement in them over the next couple of seasons.

Brennan won't get the job… Davy Fitzgerald is as good as in the job… the lure of the money will be too much to turn down.. won't achieve anything though

Won't achieve anything?,. What are you basing that on? Him, or the hurlers?
