Our? So you speak for everyone on the Island or Ireland that's involved in Rugby. It may have escaped your attention but while the name for the country that forms the 26 counties is Ireland, the rugby team is named after the Island of Ireland and therefore there is no National Anthem. If you don't like it you don't have to support the team or sport.

This one's easily settled. Bunreacht na Éireann:
ARTICLE 4

The name of the State is Éire, or, in the English language, Ireland.

You're making a show of wexford. The first Republic I might add.

Our island, our people, our anthem.

Sorry but as much as people want to wish it, the Irish constitution does not claim authority over the 6 counties of NI. It is recognised as a separate jurisdiction, I will give you a break here and assume that you missed the impact of the removal of the old Articles 2 & 3. The anthem of Ireland cannot be said to be the anthem of the other jurisdiction as the Dail has no authority over the other jurisdiction. You shouldn't let sentiment get in the way of the facts.

Who, or what, is this 'our'? And when were you appointed spokesman for all the people of Ireland?

We live in a land where a so-called republican nationalist party stand for the very opposite of what the hunger strikers died.

So, as aging man with a few years left, I am beyond even arguing about this anymore. the rest of it is bald man and comb stuff. There be no such thing as an identifiable Ireland in 50 years time.

I only saw the final of this tournament. I found it remarkable how superior the French were to Ireland. You down often see a class gulf as wide as that in a final.

Every game France played in the tournament was like the final. Ireland were fortunate to avoid them to that stage. It was still an achievement getting to a WC final but that French team could produce players for their senior squad now, serious team.

The way that France ran through Ireland like s….er through a duck suggests the players didn't care to much about the match/result either… Maybe they would perform better after standing to the National anthem instead of that ' Irelands Call ' nonsense…. Embarrassing stuff to listen to

I wouldn't expect a Kilkenny man to get it.

It's not my opinion, it's the will of majority, and the simple difference between right and wrong.

If you broke into my home and stole a piece of furniture, it wouldn't matter how long you had it, what colour you painted it, what song you sang to it, or what it was infested with. It would remain my property

If that's your argument, then it's a pretty weak one. Not surprised really given your usual comments.
Why don't you just stop digging a hole for yourself.

The words that reverberated around in my head comparing that French back division to the Irish opposite numbers on the night, was that old Jimmy Magee line.....different class, DIFFERENT CLASS.

Wrong again. The Republic Of Ireland Act 1948 declared the the 26 counties were to be known as the Republic of Ireland.

I've never seen "Republic of Ireland" on any State documentation.
