Thought it might be an idea here also to share some tips on cost savings in these difficult times...obviously add your own thoughts and advice...

My annual Broadband contract was up today resulting in a €30 hike to my previous monthly bill. It definitely is worth your while to shop around and change providers, not just with Broadband but with electricty, gas, mobile etc as well. I ended up staying with my current provider as I pretty much emotionally blackmailed them into giving me a better deal than I was on previously. So I'm now saving €40 a month with them on my mobile/Broadband bundle after they agreed to change it in order to retain me as a customer. That's almost a €500 annual saving.

I don't want to risk sounding like Eamon Ryan here but I've also found that running the washing machine & dishwasher at off peak times can make a difference to your electric bill as well. If you're like me, a young family, the dirty clothes and dishes seem never ending so if you're using appliances regularly turn them on before going to bed. Avoid using the tumble dryer where possible - it really uses up the juice.

Cook big dinners to last a few days e.g. I regularly do a massive bolognaisse or curry. It saves on oven/hob and time cooking the next few days. Plus you can freeze any surplus.

People are being ripped off in broad daylight. Manufacturers are charging over the odds and blaming the cost of raw materials. Sure they have increased but not to the extent of robbery. As for electricity , I think it's up to stay, a couple of years from now governments will be swapping fuel duty for electric duty for cars. Crooks the whole lot of them. In Ireland dozens of times this year the whole island of Ireland made over 110% of its electricity from wind and sun and sold the surplus to Scotland.

We run the gas off the electricity and the electricity off the gas and we save two hundred pounds a year.

In WWE I thought it was very disrespectful Dominik Mysterio turning on his own father at Clash at the Castle not sure what Rey did to deserve that. Drew McIntyre should have won but of course Roman Reigns can never win fairly with his cousin helping him to win. Is Roman unstoppable?

In reply to Lockjaw, "who will pay for this" Answer, you will. When will you realize Ireland has lost its sovereignty, as expressed by Varadker on Newstalk and Martin, 2017 quote in the dail " we want nothing to do with the backward looking idea of sovereignty".. Irelands money supply is in the form of the Euro, it is supplied by the ECB, the ECB falls under the control of world banking, paraphrase JD Rockefellar, I dont care who is elected, whoever controls the money supply controls the country. Irelands "government " has no say anymore on larger issues. You think the banks are going to lend Ireland money interest free? , people were paid to basically stay at home, do you think that money was free?. You are at the beginning of the great reset, Europe is committing economic suicide, if you go outside RTE and the Irish papers , theyre gone also, the World Economic Forum is the new world govt., they are not trying to hide it, the war is part of the great reset, remember build back better, the great reset, to rebuild you first must destroy. Go back and look at a speech by Joe Biden 1997, "the way to Russia runs through Ukraine", everyone knew and I could quote from several that if they pushed missiles up to the Russian border,3 mins from moscow with nuclear warheads, they would have to respond. So its too late now to Wake Up, you are at the beginning of the great reset, you will pay for all the money that was borrowed and the new borrowing which will take place on a massive scale, its only starting, btw, the next time the govt tells you cannot go to work or socialise will you know what to do?

This is nonsense - it's immaterial what time of day u use your appliances - the suppliers have no way of knowing wat time of day u switch on your dishwasher nor does anyone currently save by using "off peak"

It's all a myth to make you feel like your saving in order to save pressure during peak times off a weak grid

You're spot on that they don't know that suppliers don't know what appliances you use but the night rate is cheaper than dayrate, they can detect that. It's why storage heaters are still popular. But there's a lot of chances about supposedly saving the planet telling you how much you' ll save with the likes of solar panels and electric heat pumps but being slippy on the initial costs, grants, getting paid by giving excess power back to the grid. Speaking of a weak grid though, are EV drivers stressing the grid by charging their battery more than is needed for their journey? On Fridays are too many charging their car for a return journey, stressing the grid, when they could charge it Tuesday night, or on a Friday night or weekend for their return journey.

They can't detect that in an individual house. How could they ? You need to have a day / night meter in your meter cabinet

Well I'm only going by what my bill says. There is a different charge rate off peak hours than there is during peak hours. You're right that they have no way of knowing what individual appliance is running when. But they do know when power is being consumed otherwise how would they know what to charge you. So if I'm running my dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer at night, the power being consumed is charged at the off peak rate. So I think my point stands.

Or unless you have a smart meter installed

So you are saving pressure then?

Fair point well made Jack. We have no day/night meter yet so I'm wondering why we bother putting on dishwasher and washing machine after 10!. We try not having them both on simultaneously. We're, involuntarily, getting a smart meter installed next month. Supposed to track your day/night/peak rates and power usage per appliance and do away with estimated bills and customer's submitting meter readings. I asked the girl from the instal company about using an app to make usage more efficient and she said to contact the power supplier.

Shamrock Rovers supporters anti Queen Elizabeth chant.
Rovers should be hammered financially for this behaviour of a section of crowd. Mindless nonsense.
The ground is surrounded by Respect signs. No heed taken.
I have no time for ignorance where ever it comes from and that behaiour is just in the gutter.
I am not a royalist by any stretch but when a women of 96 dies.... Does it deserve hate like this

I'd hate to hammer the club due to what some CLASSLESS individuals do but I get your point. We all took history and some will justify it by pointing at sufferings of the past but it all boils down to a lack of class. I can't stand all this Royalty nonsense but I keep it to myself as it is what it is. R.I.P. to those that perished in 9/11 too.

I think you need to have a night meter installed in order to benefit from cheaper off peak use, and it costs extra just to have that extra meter, not sure how it works with the new smart meters, maybe they can be used for both.
I wouldn't go leaving a tumble dryer on and going to bed either, those things are famous for causing fires.

On another topic I just glanced at here, I think those soccer fans in Dublin chanting about the British Queens death like that is a disgrace, shows what some soccer fans are really like,
I think a big part of the reason they postponed all the soccer games in England this weekend was they were worried that minute's silence etc would be disrespected.
