Thats the caveman and stubborn approach that has cost GAA before, attitude of GAA is only sport in town is outdated, sports people enjoy all sports and thats they way it should be, not always purposely making them choose on pretence GAA comes first regardless

Prime Example, 2002, Ireland in world cup second round game with Spain, same day as Donegal Derry in Ulster semi in Clones, gaa refused to move the game, Ireland Spain went to penalties and of course majority of people stayed down the street to watch the shootout, wasnt 3,000 up at the semi, so what was the logic in that, backfired bigtime!

PS Kerry arent know for following their county until All Ireland finals day,so they must be big into other sports too:-)

True but the GAA are missing a trick with this condensed early start championship. Going up against the Premier League, Champions league, Rugby European Cup etc your fighting for media coverage and exposure. You need to attract the passing interest and bandwagon brigade too.

I've never seen such a disinterest in the championship…so far. Hopefully that changes.

Best draw for the gaa would be the divisions 1 teams kept apart and away tot he division 2 teams.

If Mayo got Tyrone it'd be both a f-up and hilarious.

There's a possibility someone gets Louth and then Limerick, Galway to make a semi final.

Then again someone could get Mayo/Tyrone then Kildare/Dublin, then Kerry.

Open draw is very mixed. Weaker teams can still have a run of games.

The Munster Hurling Championship and the Ulster Football Championship have been getting good crowds. Mayo v Galway and Cork v Kerry have been the only stand out football fixtures outside of Ulster. Nothing to do with foreign sports. The football provincial championships will be played off over 5 weeks next year. It's the right decision. There's too much of a gap between games.

Care to elaborate as to why that would be the best draw for the GAA?

There is only two rounds of qualifiers this year and it would be no harm in my view for Div 1 teams faring off against each other which should bring a big interest and should attract good attendances to those knock out games.

I meant in terms for GAA HQ and them getting their big match ups for the TV and sponsors rather than the every day member

"Draw" Monday morning RTE.

On Current form I would rate the teams in this order:

Mayo
Tyrone
Monaghan
Armagh
Cork
Clare
Louth
Meath

I'd agree. I'll be surprised if Mayo don't spring into life and make the last 4 of the AI.

The draw will be made in the morning. All the Division 1 teams will want to avoid each other. All the others will be hoping for two Division 1 clashes.

Example all Division 1 pairings:
Mayo v Tyrone
Armagh v Monaghan

Example lower Division pairings:
Clare v Cork
Louth v Meath

Example Division 1 teams avoiding each other:
Mayo v Louth
Tyrone v Cork
Armagh v Meath
Monaghan v Clare

Have a feeling Mayo, Tyrone, Monaghan and Armagh will be kept separated and drawn against Louth, Meath, Cork, Clare

The one likely Div 1 pairing i won't be surprised with is all ulster tie as they have a habit of drawing each other.

The excitement is building for the draw of the senior partition cup as much as the junior partition cup I have no doubt.

Mayo v Monaghan (Would expect Mayo to prevail there)

Clare v Meath (hard one to call might give the slight edge to Meath)

Cork v Louth (home advantage should be enough for Cork to win)

Armagh v Tyrone - All-Ireland champions to find form and knock out Armagh after a feisty affair)

You literally couldn't have got that more wrong! So the 4 Division 1 teams against each other, and the 4 Division 2 teams against each other.

Tough ask going to castlebar but monaghan are a side nearing end of the road so probably need a game like this to ignite a few fires. Novelty also of first championship meeting.

Every match is competitive.

Imagine if the winner of the division 2 teams get Limerick next round and Tyrone get Derry or dare I say Dublin.

Mayo will be hard to beat in Castlebar but if Monaghan show up as they sometimes can, as via the Dubs in NFL, then it could be tight and possibly a mighty game.
Expect Armagh to rediscover early league form and get over Tyrone with home advantage.
if Meath are as poor again as they were the last day then Clare have a big chance.
Cork might just prevail over Louth but a very tough one to call.
Cork and Meath have very good players but IMO the management teams have not accepted the reality of modern football chess.
