Replying To yew_tree: "I should have added another "sport" that takes Mayo players away is economic reasons. Mayo as a county lost more of its population during the famine than any other county on the island and that's a fact. We also continue to lose thousands of young people to the far corners of Ireland and the world. Now of course every county has that problem but Mayo probably more than most." Is this a serious comment? The most impoverished part of Ireland in the famine, and post famine was rural Galway. More specifically Connemara. No county hurt more by the British caused pain
So why is Galway now a beacon of hope and economic activity for the west, the highest GDP outside of the pale? Post famine both counties had the same opportunity. Mayo moreso than Galway even. Yet you're here cribbing about economic opportunities while Galway takes in Mayo people by the bus load? Maybe look at Mayo and the failings involved

Galway should be thankful for the mayo ones that come in by ' bus loads' as you say . They are contributing to your economy after all . Also Mayo have lost the most pepple to emigration that is just facts.
Your starting to sound quite bitter tbh !

Replying To PressureKick: "Honestly, a big load of nonsense response culminated by this. A load of names nobody has ever heard of
Is it very hard for Mayo people to accept that it's a one sport county or something? If its not, and soccer, rugby, hurling etc are as popular as people are claiming, then why do we not hear these famous Mayo names
As already stated, Keith Higgins is the best example. His Galway father taught him hurling. He was a top class hurler with no option of playing too class hurling. He had the option of playing for Galway, and would've won that elusive all Ireland medal if he had, but was convinced to play his lesser sport of football. Of which he won no all Ireland
To say that Mayo don't benefit from the lack of outside pressure from other sports is throwing your fingers in the ear because you don't like the answer" You say Mayo is a one sport county and then contradict yourself by mentioning Keith Higgins, he has spent his whole playing career playing both football and hurling for both county and club. So quite obviously football was never his sole focus

The bus loads of people going into galway aren't from Mayo. You'll also find Mayo is full of galway people

Lee keegan was big into rugby and actually did not play for Mayo underage. Eoghan Mc is big into running used to do it compstively is well.
Maybe get your facts right before you post ... !

To say that Mayo don't benefit from the lack of outside pressure from other sports is throwing your fingers in the ear because you don't like the answer" That's your misinformed, unimaginative, exaggerated, subjective opinion, no facts. Keith plays for my old club at home. Pete his Dad is from Galway. He didn't have an option to play for Galway. He could, if had decided to, trialled for Galway hurling. No guarantee he would have been good enough, a much higher standard than club hurling in Mayo or Mayo's level but he had been the best hurler in the county for many's a year. He wanted to play for Mayo, end of. I was in Parnell Park when he made his league debut in 2005 in, as you call it 'his lesser sport'! A phenomenal footballer. He must have been pressurised to take the U20 job? Gavin Duffy, once his Mayo team mate did decide another route. Maybe try some specifics if you're going to put some weight to your argument. Because you claim to know plenty about Mayo sport, but don't back it up.
