Replying To PressureKick:  "It's hard to make out what you're saying here.

Yes, relative to other counties, Rugby , Soccer and Hurling are unpopular in Mayo. Incredibly so. It's possible that those 3 sports are less popular in Mayo than in any other county in the country

What about my post is vague? Mayo have never produced any talented athletes ever in any other sport bar Gaelic football. Did you ever wonder why that is? Because young teenagers have no other option but to play Gaelic football

Given all those circumstances, for Mayo to only have 3 all Ireland (less than Wexford or Cavan etc) is a mystery upon itself"
I'm not sure when you've been to Ireland last but you obviously know nothing about Mayo.
I know a lot of lads that walked away from GAA to play for one of the numerous soccer or rugby clubs in the county.
We have produced many top sportspeople in many sports, Doris being one of them and unlike you he's not embarrassed to say what county he's from.
Are your Middlesex boys walking away from GAA to play cricket?

What a load of waffle. On our GAA club team for example, six lads also play soccer, 2 play rugby for the nearest rugby club, another is big into athletics. We've lost a lad in event years who got a scholarship to play Golf in the US.

New hurling club setup in south Mayo recently. The football nursery that is St.Colmans college now also have a hurling team.

I can drive 15 mins in all directions from where I live in rural south Mayo and find three soccer clubs, two rugby clubs, a tennis club, boxing club, two golf courses, swimming….

This view of Mayo you have is bizzare. You swear we are some island off the coast that only plays Gaelic Football.

Eh so Dorris is not a talented athlete? He is from Mayo ..
That is the silliest comment they have no other option but to play gaa is totally untrue .

Your obviously on the wind up here.
It's not a mystery why we only have all Irelands . We were unlucky to come across the 6 in a row Dubs team. The other times was our own doing . It's also a mentality thing and we are rebuilding. We have lots of young talent coming up here . You seem obssesed with Mayo though .... !

AS I said in a post that the admin wouldn't allow through - your generic statement doesn't hold through in any kind of reasonable test.

Take the Village of Killala (<300 people up to 1998 - rose to 600 in 80's and now back to 500 ish)
Aileen Gilroy - ex Irish soccer international and now AWFL player
Jimmy Walsh - player for NY Yankees and Boston Red Sox - played in the World series twice

John Garvin - Kilfian (neighboring parish) - won 4 All Ireland cycling medals in 1940's

Johnny Gilvarry from Killala played rugby for Leinster and was no less the Killala man for it. If going to boarding school (as your Caelan Doris statement implies) means you arent from the place you grew up in - then Dublin and all Leinster counties have produced no rugby players at all.

Ballina played basketball for many years in Killala, winning the national league and two national cups.

Thats only one village bursting open your claims of Mayo people not doing well in other sports - I would be here for the week if I went through every other village.

Run along and set up another account from the village.

I should have added another "sport" that takes Mayo players away is economic reasons. Mayo as a county lost more of its population during the famine than any other county on the island and that's a fact. We also continue to lose thousands of young people to the far corners of Ireland and the world. Now of course every county has that problem but Mayo probably more than most.

I'm not. Said plenty of times where my hometown is. Why do have so many usernames?

Not to out done on the misery scale, Roscommon actually lost the biggest percentage of its population than any other county in the Famine.

Replying To PressureKick:  "Football is the only popular sport in Mayo. It means you don't lose your best teenage athletes to other sports at anywhere near the same rate as other counties. It's why Mayo have scarcely produced a notable Soccer, Hurling or Rugby player in its history. (Calen Doris is about as from Mayo as Liam Gallagher)

Keith Higgins is a good example. A more talented hurler than footballer when he was younger, and in most counties would end up being solely a hurler. But in Mayo that was hardly an option so Mayo footballers got the good fortune of keeping him. It's not like that in a lot of counties where not only do you have hurling competing with football, you have semi professional Rugby and Soccer teams sniffing around your good minors once they show any bit of athletic promise"
If Caelin Doris isn't from Mayo then Messi isn't from Argentina..

Has a Galway man ever captained the Irish rugby team?

I'm beginning to dislike the AFL very much."
This kid is a gem.

I remember seeing him play for a Mayo underage team a couple of years ago and his dad was the coach.
He was class then but even better now.
His potential is off the charts.

Hopefully a rich benefactor or very wealthy business can ensure he stays with Mayo, similar to how other great players have currently been persuaded to stay with their county/counties... not mentioning any names... ;o)

I fear you are right about the AFL - they are sure to come in for him unfortunately.

Really hope he stays. He will be a joy to watch - he already is.
Pure class - like his dad was.
