Monaghan are through. Top team into semi Final, second and third into the quarter final.

Down have played all there games and are on three points, while Antrim have one game to go and haven't any points.

Replying To mick2007:  "Absolute disgrace that Mooney wasn't allowed play with the u20s.. deflating for both players and management… Banty did the same with Andrew mulligan a few years ago and we've seen how that's worked out since… it's not as if we have a bag full of u20 ulster championships.. if we're depending on Mooney to see us over the line against Cavan well then we're in a bad place…"
The fact that Monaghan had already advanced to the knock out stages probably impacted the decision.

I wouldn't blame Vinny at all considering he left Mooney on the bench against Mayo to prioritise the game against Antrim 3 days later.

In fact Vinny left him off the panel against Mayo.

Good luck to monaghan today. Strange time to be starting championship so it will be interesting. Monaghan probably need a win today more than cavan after a diasapointing league. Beggan probably will start. Strong ff line named to start for monaghan, here hoping Garland is on it. Like 2020, the wind will be probably be key.

I'd be very worried about the 1/2 forward line but If we can get enough ball inside to the currin man and Manzy we should roll Cavan over comfortably…

Fingers crossed for this one.

More worried about the inside line to be honest. Cavan can get plenty of overlaps going against their total lack of mobility. That half forward line will run all day.
Jones starting would not be a surprise.
Word is Bannigan and Faulkner may not play. A combined XV picked from missing players would beat the pick of who's slated to play.

Tactically so poor. Coaching poor as we can't tackle. Kick out strategy not existent . We had no plan for the opposition kick out. Imagine Beggan didn't play….

Maybe even possibly the worst performance in the last 15 years .. serious questions over the coaching

Laughing boys of Ulster. Taking a kicker back from US who's not fit to walk and can't save shots. Division 3 around the corner.

He stopped it being 4 goals with an excellent save.
Was your top scorer too I believe.

Monaghan had a lot of problems today. Beggan wasn't one of them.

First, I hope Darren Hughes is OK. It looked bad enough on the TV.

No surprises about how Cavan played so a very disappointing performance and result.
Monaghan very slow out of the blocks as they have been for a lot of the year. Injuries haven't helped and it seemed every breaking ball from a Monaghan tackle went to a Cavan man.

At least they managed to pick it up for a bit but the second goal was the killer as was the lack of real physical strength around the middle too. When Monaghan upped the pace level and drove on they had Cavan on the back foot. Pace is a killer and with Hamill and Jones they looked much more dangerous.

It was the same feeling after the Derrry game last year so hopefully the injuries will clear up and we'll see improved performances later in the year. There's still scope for a good year if the best 15 is out. Midfield still a problem, could see Lavelle there now with someone else at CHB.

I thought the referee was very poor and gave Cavan a lot of soft frees which Monaghan didn't get. Another one to join Cormac Reilly and Barry Cassidy.

I'd wait until the year is over before I started laughing.

I am disgusted with that result. Far too many errors once again and that defense is shocking. Cavan the better team. Forget about doing anything in all Ireland. Hopefully darren hughes is OK.

Yet again monaghan fail to respect this fixture and its history, abject peformance

We loooked unfit, lazy and no pride in the jersey

Alot of players past it as well

And please can posters refrain from using injuries as an excuse, cavan missing 3 quality players also

Cavan the better team today in both halves. They seemed to have a better game plan. Against the wind the slowed the ball way down. Delays over free kicks, possession kept where possible. Monaghan needed to be carving out a far bigger lead into the half than they did given the strength of the wind. But as usual slow lethargic play fisting it laterally. Beggan had more touches in the first half than most of the forwards which was a real issue. Beggan done okay today not much struggle with the kickouts given how little pressure was put on them. He was lucky Cavan didn't score a second mid way through the second half it would've have been too much for Monaghan to come back against. I'd say mcDonnell is happy man the way it went. At least now we can see that maybe it was the 14 men playing in front of them that was the issue all along. Along with the few along the line. Failing to beat a depleted Cavan team is nothing short of a sackable offense and I don't care who we were missing. Hopefully Darren Hughes makes a speedy recovery it was hard to see what had happened to him but it's not like him to stay down.
