The red card was significant but Galway had got on top before that, hard to say it was harsh, unquestionably a yellow and not many realised he was already on one.

Hard Luck yesterday, ye looked like the division 1 team for much of the game. It was still level when the red card was issued. I don't know if many saw the belt (from the ball) Jason Daly took to his head and short range from Sean Kelly. It didn't knock a stir out of him. We just dont have sufficient strength in depth to compete with the elite in either code.If we can get to 21 or 22 players at this level over the next couple of years i think Dessie and co could improve our situation no end.We have some top class players who are a joy to watch. We were the only team to beat the under 20 All Ireland champions so its doable.

Replying To Mountlin:  "So disappointed for our lads yesterday
Matched Galway all the way for 50mins. 11 points apiece and we should've got a free to put us one up when Senan Baker was fouled. Instead of going a point up we end up going one down with Ray getting a second yellow.

Galway running their bench and finishing the game strong as they probably would've done anyway.

Well done to the lads for another excellent performance. So many positives to take into two weeks time against Tyrone and with nothing expected of the lads hopefully they'll put in another performance and come away with something from the game"
i was in the park yesterday despite people urging me to stay at home . for 50 minutes we went toe to toe with what could be the all ireland champions . it was a joy to watch us play with no fear . the turning point came when a definate free in was not given and ray connelan got his 2nd yellow . peter cooke took over then and galway got the win . we had great displays all over the field . jack smyth kevin maguire james dolan and jamie gonoud did not look out of place in this company . sam mcartin was also outstanding as was john heslin but as he has been so often luke loughlin was our main man . his fighting spirit is
a a joy to watch . so i say well done to a gritty group
of men . i await the venue for the tyrone game with interest

Agree with all the above Mick. Id also have the loss of Sam Duncan as big blow. Still no Dolan, Martin or McCormick which was dissapointing. Lynam was much inproved from Armagh when introduced.

When does the Club championship start ? when will the league final be played all county players should be allowed play for it

League finals fixtures are all out, starting this Friday and finishing on Monday, all in Cusack Park, think one set is a triple header, doubtful that county players will be allowed to play although free weekend for county side, major disadvantage to Loman's if that's the case as they had four starters on Saturday while Kinnegad had none, should be allowed to play minimum 30 mins, Athlone have Ray Connellan and Sam Duncan unlikely to play for Milltownpass in Div 2 final regardless having hobbled off last Saturday, think that's all of county starters involved in league finals. Championship could start on weekend of 24th June if footballers draw or lose Tyrone match.

Two things I can't understand re club championship:

1. Football championship is due to start the week after our footballers get knocked out of the All Ireland series. So at the moment the most likely date is the weekend of the 24th of June. That does not give clubs enough time to prepare for games with county players and it's not fair on our county players. Why can't the hurling championship be played the week after our footballers get knocked out? County Hurlers have been knocked out of championship two weeks now.

2. Can't understand how a full list of day/time/venue for each club game isn't released. Players have holidays/stags/weddings and other events to attend during the summer but can't make plans as day/time/venue of games aren't put out until 7 days before games. For example I see Meath have announced day/time/venue for every game of a their Senior, intermediate, Junior, Junior B and Junior C championships on their social media's. I understand this takes huge work for fixture secretary but it would mean a lot for players, managers and supporters who can book events around games.

I think they should be allowed to play as otherwise div 1 final is misleading, Loman's being punished for backboning county squad, I think it's doubtful as county management will hardly allow players play a week prior to knockout championship game, hoping I'm wrong. It's only div 1 that's an issue, div 2 involves one player from each side so it's fair, Malachy's in div 3 final so they'd like to have David Lynch available

Even without the county men Lomans will beat Kinnegad easy as they always able to do. TJ Cox, Dempsey, Foy, Flanagan, Whelahan and Jones all playersthat are county material. With new manager bounce Lomans are hell bent on winning the league compared to other years they just about stay up in div 1. Sam Duncan has hamstring so doesnt look like hell make Tyrone game nevermind div 2 final

Sure there's no worry then they can play without them then

Who's Whelehan? Ryan Jones not a Loman's regular and now he's county material. Peter Foy a sub for Longford, prob 11th best team in Leinster.

If Westmeath are out of the championship after the Tyrone game do you think it will results in a lot of players heading for America to play ball? I'm sure that lots will get good offers to play and they didnt get the chance to go last year with doing so well. May kill a few clubs for the club championship seeing some of there best players gone until mid August with the championship beginning so early in Westmeath.

ball1 - you wouldn't be a building contractor out in the USA by any chance; making a cheeky enquiry? Chances are some of the lads might get offers alright; tough to turn down, but likewise playing in our very competitive club championship has always been something Westmeath players have respected and aspired to do. Perhaps lads from intermediate clubs might be more tempted.

Would be an impressive CV for a 21 year old Rossie to be a building contractor in the states haha!
Just seeing here that the Westmeath championship is starting so early so they will get hit the most. Most counties start in August which gives lads a chance to go and be back in time for it!
