Heartbreaking for them . Ref was very poor but no I don't understand their frustration leading them to put their hands on him. Scream at him yes but no a line was crossed. They'll get bans and they'll deserve it. galwayfball (Galway) - Posts: 1704 - 11/12/2021 19:29:12 2392453 Link 1 |
The Galway posters here embarrassing themselves with their comments. No wonder Galway's refereeing representation at inter county level is at such a low level numbers wise. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2136 - 11/12/2021 19:40:07 2392456 Link 2 |
The conditions was similar to what Mountbellew Moylough faced in the latter stages of Galway championship. Mild enough temperatures, light rain at times and a wind which both teams played better against it. The main frustration should be the performance which was miles off the performance that beat Corofin by a bit to spare. Yondu (UK) - Posts: 845 - 11/12/2021 19:45:05 2392459 Link 1 |

People voted for club football from July onwards so no point in complaining about state of pitches.

better team won today and given the long lay off probably were not at their best today. MM should be ashamed of themselves. A very immature and young team no doubt but you cant attack a ref. The GAA need to do something to stop this behaviour. brisbane (Galway) - Posts: 675 - 11/12/2021 20:29:35 2392474 Link 4 |
Disgraceful scenes yet again at the end of a GAA match. Look at that picture here on Hoganstand, at least 6 players crowding the ref, physically and verbally abusing him. Look at the refs face, he's frightened. No wonder there's a shortage of refs. No players or anyone else should be allowed anywhere near a ref at the end of the match. Get off the pitch and into the dressing rooms. If any team has any issues with the ref, they should address them to the relevant authorities. The mimimum suspension for minor physical interference with a ref is 12 weeks and the minimum for threatening conduct towards a ref is 48 weeks. I hope the ref puts down threatening conduct in his report and that Connach Council have the balls for this. midfield9 (Westmeath) - Posts: 102 - 11/12/2021 21:14:25 2392487 Link 2 |
Agreed on the disgraceful scenes but not all 6 players are crowding him. Some of them are holding their teammates back . No there should never be a situation where they have to hold teammates back but think it's wrong to say all of them were approaching him. Some were trying to deescalate the situation.

How many players put their hand on the ref.? That's crossing a line and any of those should face a lengthy ban.

Agree completely. Putting hands on an official is a complete no-no and suspensions will follow. As has been mentioned, not everyone in that picture is hassling the ref, some are trying to calm their teammates. It's all on video anyway, so the authorities shouldn't have an issue identifying the guilty parties. The GAA needs to be consistent in their disciplining of such incidents. We saw Diarmuid Connolly get a suspension for pulling an arm of a linesman, but the Brian Cody got away scot free for a pushing his hand into a linesman's chest when arguing about a decision. Not to say I agree with the behaviour of the lads towards the ref after the game but I've just watched a replay and he was about 10 yards outside the 45 when kicking. Was as clear and brilliantly taken a mark as I have ever seen. Hard to lose out on what you've trained for probably half your life for because of a decision like that. Nonetheless, referees are integral parts of our game and what's more- human. There is no excuse

The decision to not give the mark was absolutely disgraceful. The whole team called for the mark after a great fetch. How can the ref be so incompetent? Daith (Kildare) - Posts: 1172 - 12/12/2021 10:30:14 2392510 Link 4 |
it crossed the line but the refs incompetence basically changed the result . it was a mark 100% he failed to blow for it. he didnt know or didnt apply the rules. kavvie (Clare) - Posts: 505 - 12/12/2021 10:46:35 2392514 Link 2 |
I don't know there's video so it won't be too hard for the GAA to investigate ...I do absolutely agree it crosses a line and bans are deserved. Players are entitled to have words with the ref over his decisions in my opinion . I know others don't agree but he was poor (some Roscommon posters have agreed) totally understandable to question him. Not understandable to touch him. galwayfball (Galway) - Posts: 1704 - 12/12/2021 11:15:23 2392517 Link 1 |
I think a few points have to come across here. The scenes at the end were ugly unfortunately. But here we have a team probably training 9 plus months, 2 or 3 pitch sessions a week on top of the extra gym sessions involved at club level, particularly at the top level of the club game to be robbed by not one but two disgraceful decisions in the dying minutes. This is a provincial club game (the big stage of the club game) so you've got your best teams and I suppose the best referees should be appointed too. Yes there is going to be suspensions for the players (deservedly so I must add) but who is reviewing the referees performance? ? Surely at this level they have to be reviewed?? What's the " yet again in GAA" got to do with it? No one should ever be near a ref but the way your writing about it you'd think it was just GAA. Looked bad defiantly yes but other sports need to sort it out also.
