Replying To sponger:  "Is it true Casey is coming back to the hurlers?

How ironic that before he was charged with taking us out of the gutter, and here we are again, in the gutter."
Casey would be an ideal choice to get us back up
out of the gutter as you say. He is steeped in Wicklow hurling and has the respect of all the clubs and players. Let's hope this speculation is true.

Apart from the hurling it will be interesting to see Oisin's management team.

He named it today. I don't know how good or bad it is tbh. I just see one lad there that hasn't got the hint yet to move on from football.

Google Wicklow People news. Both football and hurling teams are in it. Casey really has upped the ante. Graham Keogh, Cuddihy from Eire Og and Leighton Glynn. If the best players can't make themselves available for this management team I don't know what to say. I am not familiar with the footballing set up but they are experienced. G Duffy is in for S & C.

That's some size of a backroom team for the under 20 football under Costello.

Casey will get the hurlers going again no doubt about that.

Good match all things considered on Sunday. Played at a great pace given the conditions. Seriously worrying signs for Baltinglass though, to lose two finals in a row, especially given the start they had is very worrying. Their tactics do very little to excite me, it's basically move the ball up carefully and hope for a foul for Jackson to kick a free. Their forwards are good ball winners but they've no sharpshooters.

Pats were my pick from the beginning of the year and they came through the championship fairly under the radar compared to previous years. Someone on here was complaining that the Leinster SFC game was this weekend coming but it's not until the following weekend. Pats will need to step up and be more consistent over 60 minutes to challenge in that but I would fancy them to progress over the first round.

I don't know much about the football selectors but Gary Duffy is a good man to have involved, he seems very well respected around the county and has been involved in Wicklow set ups. He's not the S&C as another poster said he would be though.

I think that was me trying to get an answer posted for someone on both teams before the 8 o'clock cut off. I'm
like you on the football team - other than Gary Duffy, who I have great respect for- I know nothing of the others. But, if they are good enough for Oisin, they are good enough for me. On the other hand, I know that Casey has gathered a fine team around him. It's great to see Leighton getting back to his first love - the small ball game.

I have just noticed something on the Wicklow Gaa Twitter account. The Senior football management team will have their first trials on Saturday morning at Ballinakill. Now the interesting bit. Anyone interested in attending contact their clubs on or before 13th Oct. Does this mean any interested Joe Public or any interested footballers ?? If it's footballers, it's a novel approach. By the way, before I get attacked, this is just an observation, not a criticism.

It will be interesting to see what the turnout is like on Saturday. Hopefully it will be reported on. I think i'm right in saying that similar trials had to be rescheduled around the county when Micko became manager due to an overwhelming turnout the first morning. Not sure this will be the case on Saturday but you never know. The make up of Oisin's backroom team looks good. Was Oisin at the county final on Sunday past?

Delighted to see Leighton Glynn involved with a senior county team. Would prefer if it was the footballer but football's loss is hurling's gain.

An interesting idea from the GAA President about how to tackle abuse towards referees from team officials. A rule in basketball allows the ref to penalise the official and his team. I'd imagine that if a referee deemed he had been verbally abused from an official and awarded say 3 x 20meter frees to the other team it would have a dramatic effect on that particular sector and maybe even extend it to players who overstep the mark also ?

My son played in a minor B final replay here in Kildare a few years ago.

2 lads on the opposing team got yellows and then reds for gobbing off at the ref....

Any information on how things went for Oisin yesterday ?? I had thought there might be something on the Wicklow GAA Twitter account.

I'm not really a fan of this trials approach. Seems a bit lazy to me. The manager should be interviewing the managers of the top clubs and going to matches. Then making a shortlist and contacting the players. Anything can happen at trials, our best players could have an off day.

I see it in the development squads. An open invitation is sent out, all the mediocre players show up and then we end up with a weak team. I'm all for inclusivity but at county level we need to be taking the initiative and approaching our stars.

I thought it was an unusual way to get a new era off the ground, particularly in the modern game. We will see how it all pans out. I too would have thought that each club manager would have a fair idea who would fit the bill and who wouldn't. Still it worked for Micko so ……

I would imagine the reason for the trials is due to the fact that he is late taking up the job due to his club involvement in monaghan. He has stated that he studied recordings of the senior championship matches from quarter finals on; so i would imagine he know the players at seniot level that he wants to invite to join the panel but what about players below the senior ranks? Wicklow don't have district teams in the senior championship; I think there should be some district team in the senior championship to facilitate intermediate and junior players to play and test themselves at senior. I think the trials on saturday will be worthwhile if he gets a couple of new players.

Well done pats on the championship win. I thought it was coming west but seem all year they turned games around in the second half, which show fitness and mentality of champions.

Seen the below on the Carlow nationalist. Be great to see a wicklow side on the screen. How will they do?

CARLOW SFC champions Palatine's Leinster Championship Round 1 game against Wicklow champions St Patricks will be broadcast live on RTE 2 on Saturday 22 October at 8pm.
