Listening to Andy Moran and Paddy Andrew's podcast, they brought it up with Andy about Leitrim. He said at the minute it is only rumours but went on then to say that he hopes things will be sorted in the coming days. (As far as I know the podcast is recorded on Tuesday nights). Andy Moran has the job. Leitrim1234 (Leitrim) - Posts: 297 - 07/10/2021 10:30:40 2384690 Link 1 |
While this sounds good, lets be realistic about the extended panel stuff. The majority of lads in our county at an age to play county aren't living in Leitrim, how many lads are going to commit to an extra S&C program if they aren't even going to be on a panel, regardless of who the manager is. Andy Moran just confirmed by county board in newsletter, Mike Solan assistant manager, Barry McWeeney and James Glancy selectors. Highandmighty (Leitrim) - Posts: 54 - 07/10/2021 12:04:05 2384717 Link 0 |

It's a bizarre appointment with no logic to it at all but shur let them at it. What achievable goals do we have anyway, we were as well getting in a recently retired Leitrim footballer as manager as doing this, they'd know more about the set up too. Must be the first time a Roscommon man managed Leitrim but I could be incorrect on that. marmalade_farmer (Leitrim) - Posts: 94 - 07/10/2021 13:08:55 2384732 Link 1 |
So it's official... I note the press release has said it's for 2022.... As I've said if promotion is not got it will be failure in my eyes.... a county like Leitrim is ill equipped to be spending large amount of money on a management team for little in return. This is a serious chance for the county to get our underage teams up to a competitive S&C level. Both Moran and Solan have S&C experience and if I was 13 or 14 and Andy Moran a program together for me I'd be doing it. Need to make the most of these 2 men when we have them on board. I'd be worried if he had a say over the S&C as he has no experience with it. It's day and night training general population at fitness classes to been an S&C coach

There are extended panels in most counties.

Exactly. What official qualifications has he anyhow in S&C bar being part of a Mayo squad and owning gyms? Anyone could own a gym... Anyhow, It's not as if we're short of people who could provide S&C services to the county (I assume paid). Ronan O'Rourke was involved in the last setup... maybe he doesn't want to be involved again I don't know but it's not as if we're short on that front. The real S&C work needs to be happening well before 13/14 in all fairness and at club level. Square_B (Leitrim) - Posts: 831 - 07/10/2021 14:40:06 2384762 Link 0 |
Eating steak and spuds three times a day and running up the side of sheemore backwards would do the same job as an s&m coach

I agree the fundamental movements should be thought at nursery level. With the senior final live on TG4 and Andy Moran Appointed manager it's an exciting week in Leitrim GAA

There's no point being built like a tank and able to run marathons either on the pitch if ya can't accurately kick a pass 20 yards or are afraid to take a shot on the goals. Too much guff about s&c sometimes. And children of 13 and 14 should be enjoying the sport and not have it as a chore with dietary plans etc. Time to jack it in at that rate. Its amateur after all marmalade_farmer (Leitrim) - Posts: 94 - 07/10/2021 16:06:39 2384775 Link 0 |
Well now... unfortunately it's part and parcel of the modern game.... god be with the days when one lobbed it into the box....

Typical guff from someone who doesn't know what there taking about! A well rounded S&C program along with good coaching is what's needed. Unfortunately one without the other doesn't work.

Oh now you're talking guff please. There's no need for gossans to be on diet plans. They need to be practising with the football all the time, and quit it
marmalade_farmer (Leitrim) - Posts: 94 - 07/10/2021 17:18:35 2384792 Link 1 |
Who said anything about diet plans? Clearly you can't read!! A nutritionist and an S&C coach is two separate things. They don't getting handed out diet plans either, it's isn't your local sliming world, they get educated on nutrition to help improve performance but sure you know it all.
