Most people last august if they were asked to right down 10 candidates Andy Moran would have been on a lot of lists. If you were asked to right down 10 rookies with no experience but might galvanise a county Andy Moran would be top of a lot of lists. It's a good appointment. Tbf to hyland he has left things in better shape than any manager since Mickey Moran. The best players are playing with the county the last 3 years

Replying To joeman123:  "You still haven't answered the question who should have been appointed. There is no point talking about someone who said publicly they are Not available now!!

Contrary to what you think I expect them to do well. Getting player buy in is key.

Anyway it is time to move on. We all want the best for Leitrim. Lets look forward and Encourage Everyone to buy in. After all we are at no 32 in the country."
Who should have been appointed???! Do you know something I don't know because I haven't heard of anyone bar Moran & Donohoe mentioned out of the 6/7 rumoured to have applied. Gary Donohoe would have been a v.good alternative but obviously the CB wanted a clean slate. Kevin Walsh dismissed rumours that he applied for Leitrim. Anyhow you're talking about negativity... we're certainly NOT No 32 in the country .... not too many below us but lets not go overboard on the pessimism... we're a proud foodballing county and just because we had a bad 2020 & 2021 due to Covid does not make us bottom on the pile. Far from it. Even with all the upheaval in 2020 we were only 2 points worse than Tipp when they came to Pairc Sean. Tipp haven't obviously done much in 2021 either and as for Cavan, 3 straight relegations tells it's own story despite 2020. I'm very positive about the quality of players we have in the county.

Spot on. The appointment is made.
Time to move on. I would like to see forum discussion on new additions to the panel and ideas like that.

That is more like it.

Lets move on and encourage buy in.

I'm not the one talking the team down... but I'm not talking up this management team either. You're the one who seems to think we should be happy with being 'competitive' and I'm saying that won't be good enough for me... Hyland had us competitive and was unlucky. Hyland had nothing to prove when he took the Leitrim job. Moran is a massive risk (Sloan not so... some might argue that he should be manager) and as such he should be under no illusion what supporters like me expect from him. Leitrim shouldn't be seen as a 'training ground' for unproven managers to learn their trade. Anyhow... that's as much as I have to say about the matter and hope that another visit to Croke Park will be on the cards in 2022.

Not No 32? Yes we are, well at least as far as the league placings are concerned, and look at the trimming we got agin Mayo. But it's an exciting appointment and I'm all for it.

The beating we got in Mayo was largly due to the lack of fitness and game time players got in 2021... 3 games in the league ... collective training banned etc... Hyland inferred that other counties were training away whilst Leitrim abided by all rules. Leitrim are certainly not a worse team than the likes of Waterford, Carlow, Wexford, London (I'm throwing London in their despite them not playing any games in the last 2 years). People seem to forget that we only lost by 1 point to Antrim who got promoted to Div 3 and 2 points to Tipp when in Div 3 the year before.

Did Keith Beirne play for Leitrim in last few years? Putting up high scores in club championship, was talk of him switching to Roscommon a few years ago

Replying To joeman123:  "I should have added that you are being totally contradictory in you comments. On one hand you say Moran and co are too inexperienced to be appointed and by implication the team will continue as is, remember Castlebar. On the other hand you are saying nothing less than promotion will satisfy you. I can assure you I will be happy with Leitrim being competitive again in the coming year.

Come on stop whinging and give them a chance.

I am sure you want the best for them as I do so lets unite in generating good will towards them."
Well said.

Glad to report Keith Beirne has been starring for Leitrim for the past two years

If you think that was well said, we'll I also have to question what your ambitions are for Leitrim... and question why you're happy with an inexperienced manager who clearly only wants to improve his jockying position when the Mayo job comes up. Longford didn't fall for it. I hope for his own sake it he doesn't end up being a failure as we're ill equipped as a county to be spending large amounts of money on an inexperienced management team (bar Sloan perhaps) without tangible results.

You should let it go, stop hammering your point and get behind them. Remember Andy Moran will need to make a succes of Leitrim if he is to take over Mayo.

God forbid anyone would question the appointment of an inexperienced manager and the logic of the county board. I really hope it works out because as far as I can see if it doesn't, we'll be set back years. There is no reason why Leitrim should not be in Division 3 (if not Division 2 as Longford have shown it can be done). But look if you're happy with us being 'competitive' fair enough.

My ambitions for Leitrim are to improve to be more competitive, to develop a better culture. Terry Hyland came in and done a great job year one. Then covid hit, the arse fell out of it. I don't know what was in place but the players didn't use the time off to build on fitness and S&C.

Hopefully the proposal B will pass at Congress and we can be playing teams at our level.

The one thing you have to admire about Mayo in the last 10 years is their heart I'd like to see more of that in leitrim. I won't be judging Andy Moran and his management on promotion in year one, he will be judged on performances.

This thread is riddled with delusion. I am of the same opinion as you. I think this will get us nowhere and we were better off having a similarly recently retired Leitrim footballer in charge who has never managed anyone before either. It certainly would make as much sense. But you can't say it here because it brings negative vibes and will keep us in div 4 apparently.

Marmalade more negative rubbish from you. I really cant see the point of your continuous criticism of the management team. These guys are going to give it a go. You are sitting in the sidelines behind a computer thowing much. I really hope this works out for Leitrim, even if it doesnt the guys will have given it a good go if what I hear on local radio is correct.

It's realism, not negativity. I hope it works out for them but it is silly bringing in an outside man with no experience. I've never heard of it before. It's an experiment. One that could have been done exactly the same with a Leitrim retired player. I don't know what' give it a good go'means? They'll show up to training and instruct the players on what to do like any other manager would. Anyone can talk a great talk. And I don't know what 'thowing much' means either.
