Roscommon U17s will play Mayo in MacHale Park in the Connacht U17 final next Friday after Mayo beat Galway by 9 points tonight. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4032 - 02/05/2025 19:54:14 2606349 Link 0 |
Ice baths?! These are 18/19 year olds who played an hour of football 7 days previous. But yeah, all Mayo's scores were just down to tired rossies making mistakes. Couldn't be any other reason. MayoDan (Mayo) - Posts: 453 - 03/05/2025 01:31:45 2606376 Link 0 |
From the RTE report 'Given that Rúairí Kilcline appeared to reverse out of the small parallelogram before leaping to palm the ball to the net for what would have been a lead score at the team, it appeared as if the right call was made by Thomas Murphy and his officials' That ref has done senior inter county games so highly doubt that they dont know the rules. If they had waved green flag and then had conversation about it then it could be dodgey call but they were calling square ball straight away. When you are watching a game you will be following the ball so very hard to tell where players are away from the ball. But anyways, it was a great game, good scores in it, showed how important kickouts are now. Hopefully both counties get a good few players coming through to the senior team. tommy132 (Mayo) - Posts: 636 - 03/05/2025 10:55:32 2606394 Link 1 |
Fair play to you if you believe everything RTE have to say.! Read the analyser's post here and he was there. Not a square ball at all and another goal like it won't be disallowed all Summer. We mightn't have won anyway because there were a further two minutes of injury time left but the goal should have stood.

The critical thing was where was the player when the ball was kicked. Obviously a difference of opinion between some Riscommon supporters who were close to the action and the RTE reporter who may have been in the stand. Mayo were probably the best team on the night and deserved the win, but the Rossies have some regrets and could have won. The best of luck to Mayo under 20's in the All Ireland semi final and hopefully final. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 724 - 03/05/2025 11:40:03 2606405 Link 1 |
Yes a process regularly used and designed for sports teams to aid recovery after intense activity. Fatigue on the human body increases errors in matches and decreases good decision making. From watching the game It was clearly visible Roscommon players was suffering from cramp 2nd half including two of their best players the Carthy brothers. Not that hard to understand Mayo playing their first match in 14 days and didn't have intense match since playing Galway a month ago had a clear scheduling advantage against a team playing in their 4th match in 21 days. Some here think the pre match odds was insulting to Roscommon but those odds was reflective of that situation. Drax_the_destroyer (UK) - Posts: 422 - 03/05/2025 14:25:37 2606427 Link 2 |
Well covered there. As I said all the more impressive that Roscommon players fought back from 9 points down to level it and would have taken the lead in injury time but for guess work from umpires.

Wrong guess work at that. Hope those officials aren't officiating for the minor final next Friday v Mayo in Castlebar.

It's well known that young players recover much faster than lads in their late 20s or 30s. Also have to remember that the Roscommon players would have been just off 2 weeks holidays from school/college. So no way would they have been any more fatigued than usual. You seem to be obsessed with bookie odds. I don't bet at all myself. MayoDan (Mayo) - Posts: 453 - 03/05/2025 20:46:38 2606509 Link 0 |
It was a game that Roscommon could have won by one or two or lost by ten. Twas a strange game in many ways. Mayo got the points. We got the goals. Thought many of the Ros forwards struggled and our full back line struggled throughout the game. Very impressed with Mc Guinness. Potential for a step up in the next few years. Some superb individual goals. The lad is unmarkable. moros (Roscommon) - Posts: 1136 - 03/05/2025 23:25:32 2606551 Link 0 |
Bit late here but well done to the Rosu20s. Serious performance considering that Mayo team is superior in most areas. I think Kilkline should have started myself and was left on bench far too long but it will drive on the lad for the future, best of luck to Mayo in the semi final. No reason they can't go on to win. I know they've trained savage hard since being knocked out last year. Next up the minors who I think are a great bunch and I fancy them Ros2013 (Roscommon) - Posts: 530 - 04/05/2025 10:20:13 2606568 Link 0 |
Well known old wife's tales. in reality the amount of training along with so many competitive inter county championship games in a short space would be new to these young players. it has a higher stimulus on them. Don't forget at that age they are still developing their bodies are going through a rapid growth phase, which can make them more prone to injuries due to the intensity of training and the tough match schedule without a two week break some where in between and it all added up to huge competitive and physical demands on their bodies. As for obsessed with bookie odds? not really I'm explaining why the odds was that long before the game. Drax_the_destroyer (UK) - Posts: 422 - 04/05/2025 13:38:14 2606598 Link 2 |
Are we still struggling to produce quality man marking and physical backs? We seem to have a few great forwards on nearly every underage team. The new rules are really highlighting the need for those type of players. Colin Walsh was the last back with good man marking potential but he doesn't seem to have made a break through. Kerry as expected the Munster winners today. Game was won contest over after 15 minutes. Pulled up the handbrake 2nd half. We'll hopefully be able to give a more competitive display against them in two weeks. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4032 - 04/05/2025 16:23:51 2606614 Link 0 |
We'd want to up our performance and attitude. Looking at Mayo today what workrate and hunger and some homework by the management can do. Even if they don't win, they've given it some rattle.

We'll do well to get to within seven points off them down in their backyard. Just don't see ours backs been up to it. I hope I'm wrong though.

Agreed even if we don't win at least rattle Kerry. Work Rate and intensity makes a huge difference as Mayo showed today but will be still kicking themselves how they didn't take a bigger advantage of the strong wind 2nd half that final was very much there to be won for them today. I'd fear it'll be more like 17 sadly.

Same old failings did for Mayo. After they drew level , they kicked a few bad wides and handed the initiative back to Galway. Galway not overly impressive today. Certainly didn't have the look of All Ireland champions. Shows again how poor Roscommon were against them. As you say, work rate and intensity make a huge difference and Ros had none of either on Easter Sunday in Salthill.

Exactly, that work rate and intensity is worth so much. They definitely should have snatched it, O'Donughue dropped a two pointer short, great save from the Galway keeper to stop a goal, the Neary lad got a point but probably could have passes off for a goal. They were also hard done by on the 2 pointer that the Galway keeper touched after it had already gone over. When they went looking for the two pointer at the end I thought they didn't have a player who looked like they wanted to take it on, they needed a Paul Conroy type.
