Best of luck to the minor team and management tonight. Interesting to see the representation of clubs on the minor team in comparison to the senior team. No players from St Brigid's, Clan na Gael or Boyle on the starting 15. Great to see young lads from various Intermediate and Junior clubs getting a chance to represent their county. There are two Casey's from Ballinameen starting, two players from St. Croans, two from St Ciaran's and a lad from Shannon gaels. I suppose it's a gaa strength of Roscommon that while we're a small county population wise, Gaelic football is played all over the county and players can be sourced for the county team from any parish and that doesn't necessarily hold true for all counties. Mayo U17s with a deserved win, attacked and defended better than us and didn't have the same issue on kick outs as you. Killer was us conceding 1-3 in 3 minutes after we had levelled the match. Looked like we were going to face a harsh 10 point defeat but credit to the lads they kept plugging away and we scored 1-1 which could have been another goal or two. They lost the crucial half back, midfield, and half forward battles. Players played out of their normal positions all over the place, which led to a lack of cohesion in the play. Halfbacks lost so much ball carrying the ball into the tackle. Roscommon got back into the game by halftime but didn't seem to have the belief in the second half that they could win it. The pick of Roscommon players were the forwards Casey and Curran, and Kennedy in midfield, who put in a gallant effort in trying to curb Mayo's star man, Kobi McDonald. Each county gets 4 games, and from that you get a semi final and then a winner. I think Fallon has to start, he's mobile, physical and a good footballer. Mayo are extremely mobile and physically strong around the middle third and we need to have players of the likes of Fallon, Higgins, McCormack playing. I don't know who should be sacrificed but Fitzpatrick not a bad option to have up front. He might not be Ben O Carroll but he offers similar qualities, quick, strong and can be an outlet for the counter. Could Diarmuid be pulled out to be more of a play maker or is it a waste not having him inside? I thought some of our best kick passing counters in the league came from scenarios where D Murtagh was involved. D Cregg has that potential as well. You could get about 12/13 of that starting team right. I think management could start R Daly,C Lennon,T O'Rourke, On Ben O'Carroll,Keith Doyle back in training but not long back so aren't expected to start. Was reading the Herald there and maybe a suggestion that Mayo would be targetting Connacht more than Roscommon, who are targetting a QF. If true I find that a bizarre approach given that winning your province gives you a much better chance of getting out of the group on top, or the very least second and home advantage in the prelim. Conor Devaney the only one on the Herald that has given us a chance of winning and to honest I'd pay more heed to a former player/captain and All-Ireland winner than any local journalist and pundit. Yes I saw that. I saw an interview he did with Off the Ball recently and thought he was very good. Would love to hear more of his analysis of Ros games. It's going to be interesting to see if there is any improvement from our poor league campaign. Has burke changed our game plan. One thing I'm worried about is our full forward line during the league against mayo couldn't win a 50/50 ball against mayo defenders and were physically beaten all day all over the pitch . I'm hoping burke has come up with something over the last month because if we play at the same level we did during the league we will be in for a long day in the hyde.
