Two interesting intermediate semi finals on this week, St Kevin's favourite against Pearces B but have to show more attacking ambition if they are to progress, far too dependent on Adam Mcdermot, other forwards need to step up. If fit Shane Keenan will make a big difference. Pearces looked poor the last time they met, have they lost many players to the senior squad is the big question? Elphin and Eir Og will be a right battle, Pat Doory will have Eir Og right up for it, there seems to be far more structure to their play this season, very dependent on Cox's to get most of their scores. Elphin appears to be the underdogs the way they started the championship but seem to be improving game on game, not too sure if they have enough scoring power from the games I've seen. @imformed Pearses B have lost their best player Mark Richardson, senior management strangely brought him on with a couple of minutes to go against West Roscommon when the contest was as good as won. Don't expect Castlerea to change their tactics, year one under Dara Bruen has been a focus on building the team from the back and have conceded just 0-21 in 4 games. Eire OG v Elphin a very hard game to call probably decided by fine margin hopefully it's not another knock out tied that requires a shootout. On Strokestown this year showed how important a handful of players was to them and didn't have the strength in depth to cover. Best defender Sean Mullooly, both midfielders D Butler, Cathal Compton and then add in Colin Neary who came into the championship recovering from injury would be ruled out with the dreaded ACL. One of their best forwards Diarmuid McGann had his injuries also, unable to play against Glaveys in the play off and only played 15 minutes at the weekend. They'll be strong favourties to bounce straight back to senior next year so Eire OG,Elphin and Castlerea will know if they don't get promoted this year it will be even tougher next year. It was such a crazy move to bring him on with so little time remaining & the game already over as a contest, even if it was an injury they had other options, those lads must be wondering how they've fallen off the radar, ok as a team not setting the place on fire & as a management team you need to shake it up to make lads buck up, but still winning their games, winning and playing fair/poor whatever way you want to look at it is never a bad thing (man down for 10 minutes v Dominic's going into injury time and outscored them) but can't be hoping it clicks either, presumably he is in the shake up to start this weekend v Boyle. Most definitely, I think they are lucky they had an intermediate team playing some very good sides to get game time into him & up to speed for senior championship, he would be some man to bring in v Boyle if not starting this weekend. So we have derby flavour to the intermediate final with Éire Óg v Castlerea Castlerea used their get out of jail card against Pearses B. Harley in for Richardson did a good marking job on Adam McDermott and they struggled for scores and none at all in the 1st half. Looked like Pearses was into the final until 1-1 was scored in added time to rescue a draw. No way was Pearses going to pick themselves up after that and Castlerea won by 5. Elphin V Éire Óg as expected a competitive contest that swung both ways throughout but Éire Óg edged it by 3. Main taking point was the straight red card for Conor Cox late on will be a big blow if he's out but as ever appeals will be made. All too easy in a disappointing one sided game in Hyde Park. Brigids too much pace and movement for the the Gaels and it was a big harsh lesson especially for the many young players only new to the senior grade for Ros Gaels. Going to take a big effort by Boyle or Pearses to topple Brigids in this form and they are geared to attack the Connacht championship head on. Brigids looking good bit who of proper substance have they played, Pearses missed a giot edged opportunity to win the game against all odds the first day out, since then its been plain sailing, look I like the fact they can put the foot on the throat and keep going against teams but when it comes to boiling point of a county final does it do them any good, that all depends on whether Boyle or Pearses can actually bring it to that scenario. Brigids had 14 wides to Pearses 3 in the opening round senior game. Unlikely to kick that amount of wides in the senior final. Leaving Castlerea after watching a disappointing one sided Junior A semi final with Clann B winning by 17 points. Last year's finalists Ronan's will be disappointed they didn't give a better account of themselves. On to Hyde Park now hopefully a good competitive game between Boyle and Pearses. Boyle into the final for a 2nd year in a row and fine recovery from that opening heavy loss to Roscommon Gaels. Game that could have went either way, opening score a McKeon goal probably the key one. This is the second Roscommon club match that I've paid for recently where there have been streaming technical difficulties and it really isn't good enough. Boyle v Brigid's Final now. Very one sided affair in first junior semi, Ronans didn't put up much of a fight at all, in the other Michaels deservedly got over a very defensive limited Kilglass team, turning point was probably the very cowardly act of one the Kilglass management who kicked a Michaels lad on the ground in front of the dugout, he was rightfully sent off and Kilglass lost their way after that. Final will be just as handy for them There a class act, amongst clubs of average ability and numerous problems, pearses no forwards, Boyle poor at the back, Ros Gaels lacking physically and a few players lacking real pace.
