They are all on the group stage match programme which is available at all games. or on the Galway GAA website..

Jack Glynn was outstanding for Claregalway, who are a very unusual team. No tactics to speak of. Just a bunch of young lads kicking football. It's entertaining anyway.

How Owen Gallagher didn't get any kind of run last year in Maroon is a mystery to me. Probably the player of the championship so far. smallfrank (Galway) - Posts: 448 - 14/08/2023 12:15:44 2500450 Link 3 |
I completely agree. He didn't even get on as a sub once. We really needed him in the Tyrone and Mayo game. Pádraig Joyce needs to go.

Because good performances in 1 sided games v spideal and James's are the true acid test of a footballer........

He was dropped from the panel during the season.Agree we needed Owen Gallagher type of t grit and determination going into the last 20 mins when the game is in the melting pot.

Perhaps PJ or Owen himself should be asked? Why he didn't get game time. Players are usually told why they've been released. There could be a number of issues why a selection may not have occurred, loss of form, game plan, disipline, injuries, or work commitments.

PJ needs our support for another year. He makes the calls, get off his case. A couple of tiny unforced errors ended our season prematurely, not the manager. There were decisions made on the sideline that I am not happy about but that is suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1708 - 14/08/2023 15:23:45 2500504 Link 0 |
He was released from squad due to disciplinary reasons. Maybe that was the wake up call he needed to drive him on further now. If he was playing good enough in training/challenge games etc I'm sure he would have got chances. Some of these club games are not a good barometer of ability to play at the highest inter County level, we've seen that plenty of times over the years especially lads that are on dominant club teams.

He was dropped due to disciplinary issues. A young man with a lot to offer, unfortunately for Galway and moycullen he will be moving on after this season and back to his home county so he's probably a bit of drive to get the last bit of silverware while here. Bigger tests await for him and moycullen

I still don't understand why we didn't have him? He was exactly the type of player we needed. He's a doctor settled in Moycullen so don't think he is going anywhere.

I'm sure they'll find a suitable replacement in Wexford or some place

Well all I can say is our goalkeeper must be unreal in training and challenge matches if that's the case

They were one sided in no small part because of his performance. He was also good all of last year. What do you expect him to do, pull the handbrake because it's not a true acid test smallfrank (Galway) - Posts: 448 - 14/08/2023 21:52:59 2500567 Link 2 |
He has been by far the best player of the championship so far. The point he got in the second half of the game was better than anything we seen all season from Galway team. It's a real shame , we needed someone like him.

No point judging Owen Gallagher untill it comes to knockout football time. MapleSyrup (Galway) - Posts: 165 - 15/08/2023 13:45:31 2500630 Link 1 |
Interesting listening to Paul Bellew last night saying that for the second year in a row, spending on the inter county teams in 2023 was over €2m. Seems big considering footballers didn't go as far as 2022. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 819 - 15/08/2023 15:52:04 2500656 Link 0 |
The footballers didn't go as far but played the same amount of games as last year. It's a huge expense all the same. The cost of trying to compete at the top is huge.

There's been 2 games, that's a big statement to be making! They've also played An Spideal and St James's, have a bit of perspective. No offense intended to the 2 clubs but they're not in the top 6 or 7 teams in the county.

I see the 3 nominees for Galway under 20 job are out donal o flaherty, Alan Glynn and Derek savage as I predicted on here it either be ex players or teachers that get the jobs in Galway,, of the 3 it be nice for clean break and appoint savage other 2 being in management for a good few years with some success in fairness but 2023 was bad for both so maybe time give someone else a chance ,, Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 987 - 16/08/2023 17:36:28 2500867 Link 0 |
