Replying To GreenandRed:  "Only a disadvantage in hindsight. We flattered to decieve in the league, never tested. An inexperienced defence has a lot of improving to do and our forwards need to improve their scoring rate from play if we're to have any chance of getting to the last 4."
That's some arrogance to come on this thread and say Mayo weren't tested during the league, after playing Galway twice!

Replying To galway19:  "Don't bother complaining about their transfers. Just back them to win the cup and make money off it. Latest betting is up:

Moycullen 9/4
Mountbellew 5/2
Corofin 7/2
Salthill 6/1
Annaghdown 14/1
Claregalway 16/1
Tuam 16/1
28/1 and bigger the rest"
Salthill's odds are generous. Truly left it behind them last year, only being denied by Cooke's lucky goal. Is O'Mahony managing them again this year?

I have a sneaking suspicion that Moycullen will not do the business this year.
Something is leaning me towards Corofin. Their days of absolute dominance are over , but they have a new breed coming in to augment what is still a strong panel with several multiple All Ireland medalists, and it's 4 years since they won one - the hunger must be as good as ever.
It should be a very open championship this year.

Replying To Albara:  "The Jarlaths team who were annihilated by Naas last year, were miles off the required standard"
Welcome Albara, you're fairly new here but here is a Geography lesson for free, Naas is in Leinster, so Galway won't be playing Kildare tomorrow night. Now if you anything about schools football you'd know that Jarlath's beat everyone in Connacht last year and if the lads from Corofin or Annaghdown who traditionally went to school in Tuam had played for Jarlath's instead of Claregalway they wouldn't have been beaten, I'll name check them for you, Reilly, Murphy, Donnellan, Greaney, Kilcommins and add in McCabe who went to school in Holy Rosary in Mountbellew. Two of them played with Galway U20's last year and one is included in the subs this year, Albara, anyone can google results, you should try and watch some live games as "nothing beats been there". I note Kildare are out tonight versus Laois and we'll see if they've progressed as they've lads with Hogan cup medals for the first time and can they then beat Dublin or Meath in the Leinster final.

The goal Salthill got also came with a big slice of luck. It was a shot for a point which dropped under the crossbar due to the strong wind.
Both teams benefited from the conditions in that regard.
Moycullen were the best team across last year's championship. They beat Corofin and Mountbellew, whereas Salthill were beaten by Mountbellew in the group. Salthill also had a softer route to the final.
In saying that, I do think Salthill are building well and can challenge any of what has been the top-3 for the past few years.

Replying To gaillimhboy:  "Right lads, this time next week we'll know the match day squad to take on the Rossies.
Here's my stab at the potential 15 that might start.
1. Connor Gleeson
2. Johnny McGrath
3. Seán Kelly
4. Seán Fitzgerald
5. Dylan McHugh
6. John Daly
7. Jack Glynn
8. Paul Conroy
9. Cillian McDaid
10. Johnny Heaney
11. Matthew Tierney
12. Peter Cooke
13. Rob Finnerty
14. Damien Comer
15. Shane Walsh

If McDaid is not fit I expect Maher to play and wouldn't be surprised if Sweeney started either. Plenty others on the bench too that can make an impact. Gaillimh Abu."
Any update with McDaid? He is a class act in midfield. Hope he is available as we want to test ourselves against the best 15 they have available.

Joyce appeared to indicate that Sunday may be too soon for McDaid. We'll have to wait and see.

Off the top of my head four of Jarlaths starting team from last year will be starting tonight Bernard Coen, Brian Cogger, Patrick Egan and Sean Birmingham?

I've seen Galway U20s in all of 5 of their eague and championship games this year. Weren't great Leitrim the last day, lost to Roscommon and only beat Laois by 1 who was hammered by Kildare last night. Best performances was the wins against Cork and Dublin and will need simliar performances from those two games to win tonight. The two week break compared to Sligo three games in two is advantage to Galway and could well swing a tight contest.

Fair comment, I've seen them a few times also and I think this is a good team, however my point was the other posters description of St Jarlaths was incorrect, they made a sweeping statement but didn't point out the true facts. Galway will get 3 or 4 senior player from this team and sure isn't that what it is all about. It just a pity Liam'O Conghaile is out tonight.

Team I think will start
Gleason
McGrath. Kelly. Fitzgerald

Mchugh. Daly. Mulcahy

Conroy. Maher

Cooke. Heaney. Tierney

Comer. Walsh. Sweeney

I think he might leave Glynn , Mcdaid Finnerty
On bench as big impact subs

Sligo win by a point with the last fist of the game.

Galway threw it away really. Missed some unbelievable goal chances in the last 7 or 8 minutes there. Had they scored even one it would have finished the game.

Had the winning of that game but too wasteful especially on the late goal chance. All the best to Sligo U20s in the All-Ireland series to be honest the schedule was unfair too them yet still found a way to win deep into injury time.

Galway blew that at the end but well done Sligo on 2 in a row at U20. They now play the Munster champions.

Just watched the game back and how we lost that, and I'm still not sure, we left 5 or 6 points behind us in the first half, missed marks and close in frees. In the 2nd half we missed 2 big goal chances and should have clipped one of them over the bar. It was looking like extra time and you have to admire both teams for going for it in injury time but game management should have come into it. At 13 points a piece Galway needed to keep possession as the ref was going to blow it up but we kicked it away and Sligo took their chance. We badly missed Daniel O'Flaherty and Liam O'Conghaile this evening. Congrats to Sligo on a great result and positive football.

Sam O'Neill looks a brilliant prospect for the u20s, extremely athletic midfielder

They might have been 'unbelievable' goal chances, if you're Micheal Meehan. But 1on1 goal finishers of Meehan's calibre are as rare as hen's teeth of course.

They were cast iron point chances though.

The players involved clearly fancied their goal chances, but their goal efforts weren't at all close, and the Sligo keeper did the business to keep his cleansheet without any undue fuss.

He does have a great engine but his decision making is cat across both games this year. Took on two Hail Mary shots that got blocked 1st one he'd a simple pass to a player on his left who was through on goal. Second one at the end led to Sligo getting the winner. This was an issue too in Leitrim game which i commented on then. Sligo always gave the ball to players in best position don't think our lads can say that.

Thought o'flaherty was slow with subs power struggled both days but think played nearly the full 60 both days.

Surprised prendergast didn't get a look o'flaherty was some loss at 6 too

Hard luck to U-20, tough to lose given the possession. Ref was very good and it was a learning experience for us.

Pj had said during the week that if needed and were performing he may bring one or two of the 20s into the senior panel....
No need now.. they threw it away with some awful wasteful chances . Well done to Sligo.. No evidence there last night of any of these lads pushing on in the immediate future . Junior club football won't help one or two of them either
