The GAA Guidelines on dressing rooms are that they can be used if all players are vaccinated. If the team is a mixed immunity group then pods of 6 only are allowed. If teams are still togging out outside then it's because all their players aren't vaccinated or the clubs have decided not to ask the players if they're vaccinated.

An email went out to all clubs in action this weekend that the dressings would not be opened, full stop regardless of being vaccinated or not! Yet another excellent call by our county board… Absolutely crazy with the weather that we're having at the minute.

Untrue. General guidance from Croke Park is they can be opened with some restrictions i think, but Westmeath County Board have made their own call on the dressings rooms being available and they have decided not to open them regardless of any guidance from Croke Park.

It's a disgrace they're not opening dressing rooms when the GAA have given permission to allow players to use them. Even if they only decided to allow players to use them after the game for showers and to get changed but have team talks etc outside. Making lads travel across the county without a chance to shower at this time of year is a joke. anon (None) - Posts: 353 - 29/10/2021 12:01:15 2387810 Link 3 |

Not sure what experience has got to do with it, Claretandblue. If you're soaked wet after a game and have to travel 28 miles to have a shower, being used to playing in Cusack Park isn't really much of a help!

The Downs flatter to deceive once again. You have to hand it to Garrycastle though. They always come good at the business end of the championship mintyfresh (Westmeath) - Posts: 211 - 31/10/2021 13:35:15 2387955 Link 0 |
Great win for Garrycastle in first semi final. Fully merited win. Started brilliantly and the two early goals virtually killed off the match. The Downs were chasing the game from the first minute and that suited Garrycastle's game plan and their experience was vital. Alex Gardiner, James Dolan, Tom O' Halloran, Justin Barrett and the McCallons were immense. The Downs defence looked porous throughout and Peter Murray faced a thankless job with poor protection outfield. The Downs did miss chances, especially early on but they never looked likely to overcome the early deficit. Disappointing for them after an impressive league section of the championship. The four week break may not have helped and their last crucial championship match was at least six weeks ago. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1478 - 31/10/2021 14:06:01 2387962 Link 0 |
Garrycastle best team from start to finish and very accurate while The Downs shooting was shocking. Yes a very poor start for them but they rallied before half time. However a sloppy 3rd goal after the restart meant it was game over. BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1129 - 31/10/2021 17:19:07 2387975 Link 1 |
Great to be in the park today. The semi finals were great to watch. The first semi final showed that experience counts for everything. Garry Castle were outstanding. James dolan was immense. But Alex gardiner was on fire. They have a great management and will be hard beaten. The defending champions had to dig deep against a fired up kinnegad outfit. But when the big questions were asked the big men ó toole and heslin stood up. It will be a great final. I won't make a call just yet. I was very upset to see no dressing rooms available for a county semi final i think the players deserve better

Coralstown Kinnegad disappointed undoubtedly at final whistle yesterday but they've made significant progress this year, definitely a championship winning side in next couple of years if they avoid injuries. Loman's still the team to beat, Ronan O' Toole has been relatively quiet in championship by his high standards but his performance in final quarter yesterday was sublime, four great points, one in particular was outrageous and ultimately the difference. John Heslin, TJ Cox, Fola and Sam McCartan also contributed immensely. Two best teams in final. Interesting that quarter finalists are both in final, Milltownpass also after finishing fourth. Game sharpness possibly helping those sides. Challenge matches no substitute. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1478 - 01/11/2021 12:31:47 2388056 Link 0 |
i take it you didnt see the first semi final as you made no comment on it . the champions did enough yesterday but to say they are the team to beat tells me you must be a lomans man and more luck to you , as a neutral i have to say garrycastle were the best team on view yesterday . they are the team that will take all the beating

Garrycastle very impressive vs both Shamrocks and The Downs. However, both teams set up very naively and let Gardiner and Dolan run riot. Lomans will not allow that to happen, even if they need to put 12 behind the ball as they did for the 1st half v Kinnegad. The Downs had no excuse having seen the 2 boys make hay in the quarter final. Garrycastle's accuracy was unreal, maybe 3 or 4 wides in total while I'd say the downs had 14 or 15. Should be a tight entertaining final but I really think the Lomans strength off the bench will win it for them. BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1129 - 01/11/2021 16:30:31 2388091 Link 0 |
I made a detailed comment on the first game Mick. In between both games. Loman's have been the standard bearers for almost ten years, seventh successive final, Garrycastle their biggest rivals in that time but the Athlone outfit won 1 game out of 5 in league stages, hardly justifies favourites tag. Loman's have won their last four matches when they've been back to full strength. I'm not a betting man but would be amazed if Loman's are not decent favourites, maybe 4-6. The Downs done very well to comeback in that game. Garrycastle were on shooting fire. Bettyboo22 (Westmeath) - Posts: 108 - 01/11/2021 19:51:25 2388117 Link 0 |
Have to agree I think Garrycastle have been excellent the last two games.. Scoreline flattered the Downs if anything, always felt Garrycastle aswell had another gear to go to if needed. I think Lomans just about deserved their win but have to credit Kinnegad, thought they gave a brilliant account of themselves and are sure to win a county title in the next couple of years. I do think Garrycastle are the best team in the championship and could do well against a somewhat weak Lomans defence.
