I'd say Vols and Joey's are pretty much screwed after years of mis-management. Sarsfields may be in trouble if there are two shocks in the prelims this weekend, but will probably do another Houdini act otherwise. I see Richie Lawlor is back playing for their juniors and is a good footballer too. Of them all, Maudlintown look the most secure. See them beating Rosslare this weekend even without Spot Murphy and aside from Crossabeg, are as good as any of the contenders. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1417 - 20/10/2021 10:58:14 2386387 Link 0 |
I'd see Maudlintown as a good bit better than 3 teams in Intermediate Preliminary QFs, a relegation for them would be a huge shock, in fairness to them they've really progressed as a club since leaving Pairc Garman, look to be a proper community effort. Nip and took for the Sarsfields regards relegation, heard this week they've the 2nd longest spell in Senior of any of the clubs i think after Castletown, I think 9 of the 13 Senior clubs this year have won an Intermediate since 2008. Hear Vols and Joeys are struggling badly for numbers this year.

I never said they'll win Intermediate, I said they won't get relegated, big difference.

I also see the U20 football structure and start date is out, starting on the 20/21 of November, all going to plan should be finished in time for the Turkey. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1804 - 21/10/2021 07:23:02 2386554 Link 0 |
With no doubt a rake of walkovers and possibly weather-induced postponments along the way. It's ludicrous leaving it so late in the year, they could have started it as soon as the under-20 hurling finished up, especially considering lads would be training adult football anyway. Dose of ****. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1417 - 21/10/2021 10:23:52 2386577 Link 0 |

Just on their scorelines Crossabeg look strong, won their games 5-7 0-7 and 5-19 0-2 against Ballyhogue and then Glynn's 2nd string.

Re Inter Football: Ferns and Crossabeg the only two that can really win it I'd say......... Few others prob 5 -6 points off them (Maudlintown, Cushinstown, Gorey, Taghmon, Fintans, Duffry). rossytilidie (Wexford) - Posts: 300 - 22/10/2021 11:32:08 2386781 Link 0 |
I wouldn't be so sure. As always, Intermediate is wide open. Crossabeg have looked strong based on scorelines, however have possibly come out of the weakest group (Ballyhogue & Glynns 2nd string). Tougher tests await I'm sure. Rath/Cushinstown are unbeaten also Ferns drew with Maudlintown, and then only beat a 14-man St. Fintans by 2 points having the benefit of playing the week before also. Fintans then went on and beat Maudlintown by 4 points with a good performance. From my view, there are 3 or 4 teams, possibly 5 with a shout. But I guess we'll see where the form lines lie after the pre-lim quarter finals this weekend. wexican7 (Wexford) - Posts: 6 - 22/10/2021 13:15:40 2386812 Link 0 |
I'd agree Crossabeg on a couple of occasions have looked the team to beat and going well but then unexpectedly produce a complete underperformance, e.g only scoring 4 points in the 2019 final. In my opinion they've probably the highest ceiling of the teams in the grade but that doesn't guarantee winning it out. bostonredsox (Wexford) - Posts: 4368 - 22/10/2021 13:24:29 2386815 Link 0 |
Unlikely OK though I'd always hope! Haven't thought anyone has stood out yet. Probably be after the QFs before the picture gets clearer.

I thought they were two decent games of football, the first one although low scoring wasn't negative and plenty of play in it. You would have to think though that Bunclody will need to be scoring more to get any further - they missed two open goals at critical times. The Annes just don't seem to have the 1-15 anymore and too reliant on key players - I would say after today would be in trouble come relegation. Gusserane were the fitter team in the second game, full of running in the second half when it was needed and opened up Horsewood very easily. That defeat will take a lot out of them and if they come out of it with injuries its not going to be easy for them next weekend. Relegation looks like its going to be a right dogfight. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1804 - 23/10/2021 17:04:42 2387009 Link 0 |
Yeah I think Annes could be be in trouble. Yes they gave Starlights a good game in round one, but that was a case of seeking revenge after their county final thrashing. They have been poor since, and when you look back to last year, were incredibly fortunate to gain promotion in the first place. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1417 - 23/10/2021 20:49:02 2387053 Link 0 |
Hard to believe how close the Annes were in the end given such as a lacklustre performance, Bunclody look very fit, can see Pat Roe's fingerprints with how organised they are, Martin O'Connor has to be close if not the best tackler in the championship while Aidan Nolan is so assured in possession. 2 of them the heartbeat of their team. bostonredsox (Wexford) - Posts: 4368 - 24/10/2021 08:39:18 2387080 Link 0 |
I see that Fethard won the football final after extra time, looked back and interesting they had only 1 player on the u17 county panel this year while Kilanerin had 6 starters and 2 used subs against Laois in the Leinster championship. Eoin Whelan the sole Fethard player was midfield that day while himself and another 3 Fethard players were on the minor hurling panel.
