Galway V Mayo

Expect Mayo to win this. They by far the best team in Connaught for a long time now, they have lost a few times in Connaught in last few years but the difference this year and last is they have to win or they are out, previous years a loss at this stage didn't matter which allowed Mayo to focus more on peaking later in the year.

Thats a very young Galway team some turnaround from a few years ago
Best of luck to them v mayo who have changed their team a lot from recent years too
Players come and go new players wear the jersey but the Mayo Galway match is allways special

Massive Massive opportunity for Galway with Cillian O'Connor out and the covid disruption in the Mayo camp. If Shane Walsh and Comer have good games Galway will win it. They will need to keep it tight at the back.

I know Galway have beaten Mayo on a few occasions in connaught over reccent years but in all them seasons it didn't count for much as Mayo went and outdone them in the All Ireland. When it mattered in the back door 2019 and Connaught final 2020 Mayo got the wins. Galway need to win this one IMO if they are to progress in future years, and they have a great great chance."
Not in all those seasons. In 2018 we made the All-Ireland semi after winning Connacht and Mayo didn't make the Super 8s.
Your general point is absolutely correct though. They've done it far more often when it has mattered in the past 10 years.

I suppose if mayo were playing Waterford this Saturday in thurles in the all Ireland hurling I don't think ye would beating Galway this weekend aren't ye a mighty county ye only play one ball Gaelic football and still Galway a predominantly hurling county has 3 times as many all Irelands than mayo

Galway's record in All-Ireland Hurling finals is even more impressive than Mayo's in Football, got to 25 finals and lost 20 of them, considering that only a handful of counties play hurling, that's some achievement for a county that's "predominantly hurling" as you say.

Good luck in the qualifiers.

Mayo will be thanking God they are playing Galway and not Roscommon after the two hammerings the Rossie's gave them this week in Minor and u20s

S Walsh definitely has the beating of P O'Hora at full back...O'Hora likes drifting up field when Mayo attack but can't see him taking that risk if marking Walsh.
I reckon S Walsh will distroy O'Hora and do serious damage Sunday.
It's Galway to win and get to the All Ireland Semi Final.

Ah yes because as we know underage Connacht titles mean automatic senior success.

No way O'Hora will be marking Walsh. It will be either Keegan or Durcan.

Wow I'm gobsmacked. I've been writing off both Mayo and Galway in my head but when I look at the teams picked by both managers I have to say they both look impressive. Now my interest is rising big time.

Probably Paddy. Lee didn't have the pace left last year to mind Shane Walsh in last year's Connacht Final. Walsh mightn't be the full tilt speedster version though as he mightn't be 100% fit. Will cause us a lot of problems even if not 100%. Will mean mostly sacrificing Paddy in an attacking sense. Galway have more scoring options than Shane Walsh though. Conceding goals against Division 2 teams isn't a great sign. Hopefully that defence has gotten meaner.

Lee was moving better this year than he had been for the last couple, at least up to the recent injury. Eoghan McLaughlin certainly has the pace and stamina to stick with Walsh and might be given the job if he's brought in late. The Mayo midfield is a more mobile sector than Galway's but if Galway manage to compete well there I feel they could win by a few points. Mayo will need to keep the pace/tempo of the game high (they're reliable performers under Horan and play their own game) to win whatever about the conditions... at least the teams have had a couple of weeks to adapt. Another potential thing in Mayo's favour might be the Galway defence which could underestimate the Mayo ff line with Cillian gone? My mind is racing a bit... always does before games like these and throw in just a couple of hours away.

C'mon Mayo... time to bring it to Galway!!

Should be interesting game.

Like the look of Mayo, even with the obvious absences. Croke Park will definitely suit them, and fancy them to win by 3/4 points. They are a good price in my opinion either to win or on the spread.

Getting a small bit more confident as the game approaches, Mayo still have to be favourites though

Lee seems to get judged harder than most of our players. He did fine on Shane Walsh last year. Only gave up 1 or 2 points. I don't remember him getting skinned for pace either.

Mayo should be favorites and deservedly so as they have done something over the last decade while we have done next to nothing. I hope this is the start of our decade of good things. Galway Abu!!!

Good start by Galway. Mayo look seriously rattled especially after the second goal.

We're getting schooled here. Need to take our chances and try playing more in the Galway half. Defence is shocking.

That Comer yellow card wouldn't have been a yellow even in soccer. Terrible decision.
