"If Kildare win by 6 and Cork win by 3 no idea what happens. Everyone would be tied; Cork and Clare would even have the same for and against." If such a scenario were to arise then it would be the two teams who had scored the most in their 3 group games who would progress to the semi finals, at the moment Clare are 4 points ahead of Kildare and 3 ahead of Cork. I picked Cork as I think they usually have a bit more depth. Clare have a nice team especially with Tubridy back. I'd love to see Clare do what the Tipp and Cavan footballers did last year.

Ya. That really is our big problem. Maguire is doing well and our backs are decent. Powter outstanding and Paul Ring,Daniel O'Mahony, Sean Meehan are very good prospects. You are right that people naturally go for Cork in these games..be very hard..it is like a championship game for us really. A must win. Thankfully it is on TV on Sunday.

I just feel the team picked from midfield and half forward are all to type. Hard working and athletic straight running but not enough guile and scoring forwards. I also feel John O'Rourke is no corner forward. I would play O'Rourke as a half forward as he works hard and can score. Also Mark Collins can fulfil a role as a hard working but ball playing half forward, who is also a reliable free taker. Play a natural corner forward from the start, such as Gore or O'Mahony or Dineen. Give them a bit of time from the start rather than 10 minutes late on. We will not beat anybody with turgid tactics of 5 years ago.

Ye Irish, why not be a bit more adventurous in life? Throw off yer conservative shackles, and post the winning margin as well. Here goes, let the yank show ye how it's done. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2225 - 28/05/2021 16:51:26 2346108 Link 1 |
Mayo - Meath: My heart says Meath will take a passive Mayo team but my head says they won't. Mayo by 3. Westmeath - Down. Tradition and reputation always puts Down ahead of Westmeath but following their first two games, I cant back them. Westmeath are a good outfit. Westmeath by 4. Laois - Kildare: Thoroughly unaware of the venom in this rivalry! Its a tough one but Kildare to shade it. Clare - Cork: If Cork dont push on this year in any capacity it shows the win vs. Kerry last year truly was a flash in the pan. In saying that I think Clare are one of the most underrated teams in the country. Clare by 1/2. Young_gael (Meath) - Posts: 597 - 28/05/2021 17:49:06 2346121 Link 5 |

Well done Kildare today, winning by 13 to guarantee play off, Laois were poor, but we were better today than last week, one off game v Meath for promotion, I would have taken that at the start, we wouldnt have beaten Mayo but have a genuine chance v Meath NorthKildare (Kildare) - Posts: 197 - 30/05/2021 16:01:16 2346546 Link 5 |
Hmmm don't think so. Meath rested all their main players today. The team that faces Kildare will be a totally different outfit. Think it's better for us than Clare actually. But sure it will be fun either way. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 30/05/2021 17:13:04 2346587 Link 0 |
50/50 as always between Meath/Kildare

You don't think Kildare have a chance of beating Meath? Now now.. that's silly talk. Not saying we will win, but to say we don't have a chance...

Clare football team are a bit of an enigma. They always seem to be able to hold their own in the league against teams of a decent tradition. They are well able to compete in Division 2 and never seem overawed. But they never seem as comfortable in the Championship. Didn't say that at all . I just think with it been Kildare Meath will be a little more focused. Our backs won't be easy to get pass. With the return of Newman I think we will win. Could be wrong. Kildare have a chance. But Meath will be fav, and hopefully will justify that.
