Have to say I think the difference at the end there was Tyrone losing their composure a bit and having the wrong men on the end of good opportunities. The number 7 for Tyrone had a couple opportunities and still plenty of time on the clock towards the end but he played a couple of poor shots/passes, and hit the bar as well I think it was him. Whereas we had Gallen, Thompson, Langan at the end of our moves and that's who you want. I have to say I am over the moon, when Murphy is having a rare off day in terms of shooting and Ryan McHugh is well marshalled, to come out the other end of it with the win is fantastic. Ciaran Thompson and Michael Langan were absolutely colossal. The young lads have no fear, Mogan excellent and Gallen was fantastic when he came on. I thought he played like a fella in his 10th year of senior championship, clever with the ball confident in himself. Won a soft free when he kicked the ball out over the sideline without a doubt but that's probably the only wrong thing he did the whole day! I'd say Tyrone are disappointed when you think of opportunities they left behind but we did gift the goal to them. I thought we really missed McGee in the second half. Very disappointing to see a Tyrone player fein injury again to try to get a player sent off. No need for it at all. Really horrendous conditions and a very difficult game to analyse. Thought it was a 50/50 game that could have went either way. It really wasn't a day for running the ball but both teams are wedded to that style of play. You cannot fault the efforts of the players, they left everything on the pitch. Tyrone made a great start and Donegal were really struggling until the Langan goal. I really feel this was the turning point in the game as Tyrone were in control. There really isn't much between the teams, in fact free takers is probably the only difference. From a Donegal point of view I never would have thought we could win this game with Ryan McHugh and Michael Murphy being quiet, also Paddy McBrearty injured. In recent years it is usually one of those 3 players who get us out of trouble. Tyrone are going to be a force next year with Cathal McShane back and more football in Conor McKenna and Darragh Canavan. First of all congrats to Donegal on a great win but really I want to congratulate both teams on a really entertaining game under brutal conditions. I also felt Donegal lacked a bit of luck the last few years so maybe they deserve their day today. A gallant display by Tyrone also and already looking forward to seeing them next year with McShane back, young Canavan McKenna etc. While it's sad for Tyrone fans today. Its only a short turn around and the league will be starting again so heads up. The two teams gave great entertainment today which is so badly needed during these strange times. Really enjoyed that and huge credit to both teams in that weather. Michael Murphy didnt do a whole lot and with McGee going off I thought Donegal would struggle but was hugely impressed with Thompson and Gallen. There was a strike to the face to the Tyrone lad and yes he milked it but a strike is a strike and I daresay if it had been Michael Murphy that got a strike to the face there would be a different narrative by RTE & on social media. Tyrones indiscipline cost them. That's something they haven't been able to rid themselves of over the years and that's a management issue imo. The less said about Slapgate the better from a Tyrone point of view. It is truly cringe worthy to see yet another Tyrone player feigning injury & trying to get a Donegal player sent off. Well done our lads. Looked mostly good. Great performance despite the weather. Finger tip rugby sometimes today, when we gave away possession and Tyrone got a couple of scores in the 2nd half. But that worked out both ways really. I think that on the balance of it, we should have won by a wee bit more. No singling out of players today. They all did their bit. Tyrone battled. They were dangerous right up until the end. I think the Tyrone player who dropped the ball on the crossbar was going for goal as he had a quick look up at that side of the goals before he shot. (or did I imagine it)?? Anyway, good luck Tyrone. Maybe you will get the next game v Donegal in Omagh, which seems like a very, very long time ago since that happened in the championship. Jeepers doesn't get much easier for Donegal, Armagh up next, looks like another good game. Donegal will have two Div 1 opposition in there opening two games. Stupid slap on Mc Kernan but he made a meal of it. Having said that didn't Brennan get 3 months for touching refs arm. Some lads just can't help themselves. Good match though in dreadful conditions. There'll be more talk for Mickey to depart but I can't see that happening. Regarding Murphy, it's very easy to say that he should have done more, or should have been more involved, but only for him in the last 10 or 15 minutes we might not have been able to get the ball out of defense they way we did. We all would love to see him up kicking scores, but the dirty work he did today was vital. A lot of the players there today seemed to struggle with handling, and with running the ball forward (McGrath, McClean and Gallen all lost the ball in the tackle towards the end) but Murphy had the composure and strength to get us out of some of those sticky situations.
