Nonsense. Furlong has forgotten more about football than you will ever learn. The man is a genius, so less of the yerre stuff

Replying To Furlong1949:  ". Meath team named. That Meath team that will start v Tyrone has 9 changes to the Meath team that played v Donegal in the super 8s last July. Meaths full back line which was really good last year eg lavin, McGill Gallagher is pretty much gone. Meath have two debutants in the full back line eg Clarke Toner It looks like Meath have 6 or 7 injuries, all pretty much first team starters. So Meath are injured these players S Mcentee Lavin, Devine, Gallagher, Harnan, Newman. Lenihan was injured v laois, he is not named looks like he could be injured aslo , that would bring it up to 7 missing player."
Very true. And while it is also true that everyone is missing players, I think the importance of some of the players to Meath is a huge problem. That been said I think we will win tomorrow. Time for the newbies to shine.

Thanks for the comments I really appreciate them. Regards being a genius , no I am just a Meath bog man from the backwoods of Meath who loves his football. But thanks for the kind words Dunner. It means allot.

Looking forward to the next two months. It will be tough. Stay in the div 1 or relegated, whatever happens these 7 matchs v best teams in the country is invaluable for the team in terms of experience and development , these young Meath footballers will learn so much playing brillant footballers like David Clifford , Con Callaghan , Michael Murphy and Ciaran McManus and playing brillant teams, the best teams in the country like kerry Dublin Donegal Mayo Tyrone Monaghan Galway. Hopefully the lessons wouldnt be to tough.

PS I know a friend of yours Royaldunne passed away in the week , the former Meath footballer Jason Hendricks. Very sad to hear such a young man passing away. My heart goes out to his family. While I didnt know Jason personally , I do remeber him on one of my favourite Meath teams ever , the 1993 Under 21 All Ireland champions. He also won a minor All Ireland with Meath in 1990 and that team won Under 21 All Ireland 3 years later. That was the first underage Meath team I ever followed and the victory over kerry in the final was a great day for Meath football. In my view the greatest underage team the county has ever produced. Jason was a member of a special team. One of the most admired teams ever to play for Meath. And was he also was a great servant to Na Fianna. He was also known as a great character and also known as a man with heart of gold. A great Meath man.
May he rest in Peace.

Hard luck our lads. Good entertaining game. A bit scrappy but it was slippy. Good support there for both teams too. I think mayo have our number, that game reminded me so much of the league game that was a draw 2 years ago. We were really hanging on in that one. In the game tonight, I thought the money was in the bank but not to be unfortunately. I still am happy with our performance. Roll on the Meath game, which i believe we can win.

Hope Ryan mchugh is ok.

Ref had an excellent game while trying to ref a game where both teams were out to outdo each other in cynicism...both Dublin and Kerry were a disgrace to the game tonight with cynical fouling and head high tackles

Relax with the ref bashing lads. It's only January for the refs too.

The ref was fine in the Dublin v Kerry game, missed a few things here and there I'm sure but he'll get sharper and it was a tough enough game to ref.

It's gonna be hard for them this year with the silly mark rule. An extra headache that will prove controversial at some stage.

All these lazy sweeping statements about refs. Surely ye have the wit to list out the specific incidents where you think the ref got it wrong, and why? Given the amount of abuse so far, I'm expecting at least a dozen serious errors by the ref in the Kerry Dublin game. Go on, list them for us.

You predicted meath to win all their games in the super 8s last year with paragraph after paragraph of complete and utter bile to justify youre short-sighted reasoning for it..
.
The delusion was rife instead of knowing youre place and been humble about the strong opposition that your lot were up against.

Point away at Donegal is not to be sniffed at .
Its not how you start a game , its all about how you finish it.

Donegal have real power and pace in that team , horan needs to take some credit for getting the team right for the 2nd half otherwise they would have taken a hammerring,
Lets see how the tribesmen do against them.

I thought he was average enough. There were several times when he could have let play go but didn't. On at least two occasions he let frees be taken about 10 yards up or in field from the incident. The early Kerry free, a baffling decision anyway, where Clifford tried to take a quick one and not from the correct position I thought should have been a hop ball but wasn't. Philly carded for no apparent reason or both should have got something if he was going to penalise. Lowndes yellow was harsh as clearly unintentional. It was obvious when Dublin took the lead that he was going to allow Kerry one more attempt, nobody seems to know why he brought the ball forward. Every ref has a habit of letting the losing team have "one more go" for some reason. Time should be time at the end of the day. In other instances a quick free was blocked yet ball not advanced. I think he was unlucky also that there were so many stoppages for blood injuries, advanced mark, normal injuries that his own nitpicking, failure to allow play to go, was magnified. I think there was about 16m extra time in total in a 70m game, like having 20m of extra time in soccer. Madness. Could have been a great game but for the stoppages. There may be something to be said for passive blood subbing managed by the line instead of constant subs, stoppages, announcements. Roll them on and off instead.

A good enough game , thought the Ref did fine with all these new rules to deal with. One aspect of the game that requires is highlighting the amount of fouling going on off, and on the ball. If the Ref had blown for everything then the second half would have lasted 60 minutes-how do players think that catching an opponent with the two hands/arms and indeed with one hand think that this is not a clear foul. Wrestling is not part of the game on, or off the ball. Ref would need eyes with 360degrees vision. What type of fools/experts do we have making/changing rules that make the game more difficult for a Ref-could they not learn from ladies football, or are we just slow learners!

Obviously you would like a game with no rules-just let the game flow and allow many wrestling matches throughout. Judging by your comments the Ref to be good should have given all the frees to ye. I do agree he was weak on playing advantage, but he had to deal with a lot of cynical fouling (players not able to tackling without fouling) which is always difficult. Anyway enjoyable to watch for most neutrals. I like Philly but to say 'carded for no apparent reason' - he could be carded a couple of times in most matches.

No I didn't say that he should have given everything to Dublin but obviously incidents where Dublin should feel aggrieved stand out for Dublin supporters. Same with every supporters. His biggest flaw was refusing to let the game go. When tackles are always going to be waist high allow hands to be placed on fellas. Only blow if fellas are dragged out of or pushed, not every time a fella gets a hand laid on him. Play advantage wherever possible. Clearly the advanced mark has done nothing to combat blanket defences also. It just further slows the game down.

Ref had a 2nd half shocker in Salthill. Some result by our guys to sneek it against a decent Monaghan side.

Is this what's going to happen after every game? "Ref awful......" why don't you get up off your backside and ref yourself if you think you can do better.
