The Sunday Game - Awful Coverage

I didn't like and I thought it was unfair of marty Morrissey to ask Sean O'Brien about his 3 black cards and potential suspension for the all Ireland final on the field after winning man of the match today, not the time. Hopefully he will be cleared it would be a severely harsh way to miss out on a final.

He had an excellent playing career no doubt. But this thread is about broadcasting so it is irrelevant. I'd be an excellent Leitrim junior c championship pundit I think.

Apologies I think Dessie is a gent but too polite to be a co-commentator or pundit. But then again a lot of the pundits and commentators are fairly boring. I don't doubt you'd be a good pundit either but the RTE criteria seems to be 'ex-player, won't rock the boat too much'. I wish they had more table bangers, local GAA journalists and a few fans because they'll be knowledgeable and speak their mind. A few years ago there was a Thursday night GAA weekend review show on RTE, I forget the name. Not sure if it had many celeb guests but one night Shane Lowry was on and was great, loads of knowledge, loves football and hurling. RTE needs to rethink GAA programming before 2020 and try and be a bit different or they'll lose some audience to TG4, Sky, podcasts and other media. I'm 50 and think it's boring. Imagine what a 15 year old thinks?

Didn't see the previous 2 black cards but today's was as clear cut as possible. Why would it be a shame??? If they were like today's then he deserved.

How is it harsh?

It was brought in because of a rugby tackle on Conor McManus.

If the black card has any credibility left he wont play

Pat Spillane said it would be a shame if a player missed an all-Ireland final over a black card. And I thought Pat was all in favour of punishing cynical play. Don't worry Pat - O'Brien will be let play against the Dubs.

100% agree. It shouldn't matter that he's a great footballer or not a dirty footballer. He knew what he was doing and it was completely cynical. It'll be a joke if he gets off.

The lad seemed pretty sure he was going to get off the with the Meath black card don't know why it was wrong to ask the stadium was empty at that stage.

It was a blatant black and not necessary either. I'd understand if he was stopping a goal chance. I don't know the other two offences. One was a yellow so probably not cynical and I don't know how deserved. I think if you look at it as missing an All Ireland final because of a yellow card, that would be very harsh. 3 blacks like today and definitely you could not argue and it is well deserved.

Why would it be harsh?
Black cards are for cynical fouls and to get three deserves a punishment. That his is for the all Ireland is tough but you play on the edge then you have to run risks like that.

He said himself he was aware of it. Can't complain about missing the final. Deserves to miss it for his stupidity and cynical tackle.

The three lads on the Sunday Game tonight seem to think o'Brien will get off.

Poor analysis again tonight. No examination of the many many questionable refereeing decisions by Deegan who helped bring Kerry into the game . Des Cahill not really up to it or any better than Cantwell. Lazy presenter. Extraordinary the lack of respect Sean Kavanagh shows Mickey Harte. Does not come across as an impressive individual at all. Darragh O' Cinneide the most talented presenter they had but never pursued promoting him. Dessie Dolan really not suited at all as a co-commentator. Why are they always showing Brogans ad when the game is up for him and he's not going to make the final panel. The story isn't real.

He likely will but he should get off because the black card was too harsh, not because it will be sad for him to miss an All-Ireland final.

Why should he get off? He dragged his man to the ground today, when the game was won. The appeal is based on the card issued in Meath game. If a player gets 3 black cards in a season, there must be a reason. Maybe the Kerry management should have a look at his disciplinary record instead.
There will be a big campaign from now on to get the suspension rescinded, probably successful. If the ban is lifted, it sends out a wrong signal.
Regardless, Dublin will beat Kerry in the final, making history.

Every county have a right to decide how they run their affairs. However the lack of respect shown to a man on the Sunday game tonight by one of his own was shocking. I think Tyrone GAA has been going for over 120 years and in that time they've managed to win 3 Senior All Ireland titles. The only man to bring this accolade to the county is MH. I think it's fair to say he built this success up as far back as 1991 - a full 12 years before the breakthrough.

How many great Tyrone players played without getting close to the top?! Cavanagh sat there and basically said people before MH stayed a long time and put the work in which MH eventually benefited from. He may think it's time for a change but to question MH's success and basically say the men before him built it was surprising.

RTE bias against the man is obvious but I'm surprised one of his own was so vocal after he was lucky to have a career under MH which brought him something other great players from the county couldn't get close to. I haven't rated Tyrone teams since 2010 and I can see them going the same way as Meath post Boylan era, people don't realise how good MH is but when he is no longer manager watch Tyrone drop rapidly down the rankings. It's a miracle Tyrone teams have competed in Semi finals/finals over the past 5 years and I put this down to MH maximising the potential of what he has available.

Hes got to get off on the Meath one on appeal...wasn't close to any sort of card.

He should never have 'taken one for the team' since it wouldn't have changed the game in Tyrone' favour so late in the match .
He was quite confident that his black card against Meath would be overturned. Hopefully it will be but not guaranteed.
