Replying To RoyalBadger: "Nothing to be learned from that. Wicklow went there to lose." Not sure what you expected to learn its the first game on the year div 2 team against div 4 team ? These games are just prep work for the league games ahead. I dont get to many clubs so know little about Jack Hannigan , Paddy Kennelly, Ruairi O Coileain, And nobody knows much about how they perform in Meath team. I taught they all played well took the right options and looked comfortable, and more importantly looked like they where slotting in to system. Also Meath team seem to trying to defend further away from the goals than last year. The looked organized and there was a massive effort. So I am beginning to Learn about this new setup. I think it can important to win and build momentum it been a new setup. But I think the result at this time of year can largely irrelevant. Donn Tobin played very well at FB and is mobile and is lucky to have Keoghan to cover him when he travels up the pitch.Think Mickey Burke tries hard but could be caught for pace this year. Downey and Curran intelligent players with Downey good under breaking ball . Mcentee did well and offers aggression to defence. Midfield very strong especially Menton with Flanagan offering a lot also. Half forward line our biggest scoring threat.Full forward line also did well and will learn a lot in next few weeks. think a place will have to be found for O Coileain especially Bear10 (Meath) - Posts: 463 - 09/01/2017 13:48:55 1944296 Link

I agree with your comments but add that I have seen those players many times and they are good players. On the match itself- Wicklow were very poor and would not beat a good intermediate club team with that display- guys who were not able to go on a solo run without overplaying the toe to hand. I also think andys post match comments were welcome and insightful, he wasn't happy with second half and put it Dow to mental rather than physical, also his reasons for picking biggy as captain. One of the things I picked up on was our efficiency in possession particularly in front of goal. Don't think we wasted an awful lot and it was also noticeable that we tried to work the ball into the most favourable area. Gives his man too much space and his defensive anticipation is dreadful. There was one moment in the first half at the town end where his man beat him to the ball easily with a lot of space and turned him with shocking ease. Tobin shouldn't be near that full back line." yeah I understand your point but I think Tobin needs to be trained for that position and he can be as Andy must be thinking of playing him there . He offers a lot on kick outs with his physique and he can only get better with coaching . Ventured down to the game yesterday, I have to say I don't think we can read much into it, Wicklow were absolutely dreadful and put up no fight whatsoever. It will be interesting to see how we get on when a team puts us under pressure, particularly if we're leading in the 2nd half, that's been a major problem for us of late.
