It's obvious you haven't got an eye for a good defender. Tobin's reaction speed to opposition forwards turn of pace is very sluggish in my opinion and he's not tight enough for the 50/50 balls. This is because hes not very good at anticipating his man's run which means he loses a few yards in the chase for the 50/50 ball. He's a good athlete and a good all round player but he's more accustomed to playing half back or half forward. It takes a certain player to play in the full back line. Donal Keoghan is an ideal corner back. He anticipates his man's runs well, he's excellent at staying tight and getting his hand in to dispossess. But in the full back line which is your last line of defense you need your defenders to be very quick over the first few yards, quick reaction speed and good anticipation. I also have that feeling, just cant get away from it, first and foremost he is a goal poacher, not a speed man, play maker (unless laying off) and if we a goal down with 10 mins to go in Leinster final against perhaps a dubs backline that are suspect under high ball, I can see him been thrown on told stay near square and biggy or whoever launch in a few high ones. Think it is a bit early in the season for posters to be praising or slating certain players. We all have opinions but its better to keep these to yourself until at least the start of the league. Its unfair on the players particularly posters that say a player is not good enough. Give everyone a chance and perhaps Andy will find a few gems out there that we didn't know we had. Thats why he should have been kept on by the previous regime...against a packed defence in the closing stages of a tight game, the likes of a Joe Sheridan in FF line could be the winning of a game.

not too sure about Tormey. A bit of time out would help to get the focus/hunger back. Same could be said about Newman as last years attitude wont cut it by the looks of things. Curious about that one myself. Also, what's the story with Newman? I know Wallace is with UCD and McGill is with DIT but apart from that I don't know of anyone else with colleges. Seems big Joe is in as third choice keeper until Paddy returns. I'd imagine there'll be a big cull of players in the next week or two.

Good question, I also don't remember seeing Newman on any of the teams in the challenges or against Wicklow.

I would disagree. Donaghy is the master of the high ball on the edge of the square and against Dublin he has done nothing in the last couple of years. Joe is nowhere near the full forward Donaghy is, certainly at this time of year. Long hoofed balls on top of a team sitting back when they are ahead is pure desperation and I don't think I've ever seen it worked against a packed defence. Give Joe his chance in goal and if he takes it fair play. If not 15 or so lads need to be dropped and Joe as an outfielder should be one
