Crossmaglen Rangers commenced their bid for a 48th Armagh senior football championship title by seeing off newcomers Tullsaran on a 2-18 to 1-14 scoreline yesterday.

Playing in the senior championship for the first time, Tullsaran took the lead early on through a Gavin Conlon point before the visitors went on to dominate the half and bring in a 0-12 to 0-4 lead with them at the break.

Eddie Mallon grabbed a much-needed goal for the home side after the break, but majors at the other end from Stephen Morris (penalty) and substitute Paul Hughes settled the issue for Crossmaglen.

Defending champions Madden Raparees were held to a 1-12 to 1-12 draw by Dromintee yesterday evening.

Paidi Comiskey netted for Madden in the first-half as they led by 1-9 to 0-5 at the break before the home side battled back, goaling through Cathal McKenna and a late brace of scores by substitute Oran Loughran earned them a share of the points.

Meanwhile, Mullaghbawn edged a 0-16 to 3-6 victory over visiting Sarsfields, with Fergal O’Brien (0-8) top scoring for the winners.
