Good team Doylerwex. Would probably have Rory McCarthy in ahead of Stamp myself but hard to argue with the rest.

Dee for Rory Jacob, Rory Mac for Stamp. Fitzhenry L. Ryan D. Ryan Rossiter Reck Dunne O'Gorman McCarthy O'Keeffe Chin Storey Codd Lyng Mac Rory O With Lyng playing out the field. Hard for me not to have Larry Murphy, cult hero and as good a wing-forward we have had. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1491 - 08/06/2023 12:57:08 2484917 Link 0 |

Go to the multi billion pound company called Coca Cola. Set up a Coca Cola schools league - 1st and 2nd years and 4th and 5th year teams. Every secondary school plays every other school home and away - two top teams meet in final. Winning school gets €10,000 worth of gym equipment- runner up 5k Yellow (Wexford) - Posts: 589 - 08/06/2023 15:55:46 2484956 Link 0 |
Yes very good idea regarding school league .. something similiar might improve our ACHL also .. throw a bit of prize money towards the winning club .. We were randomly discussing it last night about how good the league used to be ... 2023 has been the worst performing league in history in my opinion .. a total farce and waste of time - and it shows how little value is been put on it with the ACHL Premier final on this Sunday at the same time as the Leinster hurling final MyOhMi (Wexford) - Posts: 182 - 08/06/2023 16:53:57 2484988 Link 0 |

I think we need the GAA season needs to be seriously looked at. Was playing games in April all that bad?? wexfordwin (Wexford) - Posts: 191 - 09/06/2023 09:26:08 2485071 Link 0 |
Yeah the intercounty season is too long, with too few do-or-die games in even what is meant to be the premier competition for the amount of space it takes up on the calendar. You know the product is flawed when a few teams would rather lose a game and thus get more prep time/rest. I don't know why we can't have designated weekends in our own calendar where the county lads are made available for their club's league games. There was what three/four weeks of a gap between the end of league and start of Leinster this year? Was going on a foreign training camp more important for the overall development of the game than allowing as many lads as possible to play matches for their clubs? Definitely could have fitted in two rounds of the ACHL in that time-frame, and two more since they've been knocked out (missing one or two due to Tailteann Cup is more favourable than missing a chunk due to bad scheduling). Sprinkle one or two rounds in other gap weeks in the intercounty season. I watch a lot of club hurling and trust me it's not a battlefield. Like are the county players even given a say, the ones not making the team? I know for a fact that one fringe player was 'released' (you'd swear it was pro soccer and a club manager dictating whether a player can go play an international friendly) to play a league game for the club, 45 mins max was agreed beforehand. But the way the game transpired, his club picked up a couple of injuries and it was in the melting pot so he ended up playing the entire game. And got condemned for doing so. Are we wanting lads to play as much hurling as possible, and allowing clubs access to their best players at ANY opportunity, or are we so under the thumb of county set-ups that we just make a token effort in fixing games? We in our eternal wisdom had a league structure that no-one cares about WINDING DOWN just when the county hurlers were back, and now fixed the headline game in it to clash with two provincial finals, one of which could be a clash of the ages. It boggles the mind. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1491 - 09/06/2023 10:40:59 2485088 Link 0 |

Club hurling is not a battlefield? It's pretty clear you watch so and don't play. If you even have played it.

In terms of the frequency of injuries etc. There seems to be a reluctance to allow county players play the odd game for their clubs in case they get injured, when in reality they seem to be picking up far more injuries in the closed-shop training sessions.

Think you might have rose-tinted glasses about "how good the league used to be", because I've been knocking around the leagues for nigh on 30 years now as a player, team mentor, or administrator, and I don't recall a single year where people weren't complaining about it and calling it a joke. But if you really do think it was a lot better in years gone by, maybe a few specifics about whatever was different then might help. There's the obvious one about the long gap from start of football league to start of football championship, but that's been well trashed out here already, and so long as the majority vote is to keep running the hurling championship first, there's little or nothing can be done about that. So, what else? Also curious to hear how much prize money you think would be needed, and where exactly it's going to come from, especially bearing in mind that even in this year's 'joke' of a League, there are nine divisions and therefore nine winners. I watched a couple of our League games this year. The team was largely made up of fringe players so quality was probably not as good but all 30 lads in both games couldn't be faulted for effort or intensity. There were plenty of big hits during the League and even punches thrown!

You are right Beano. Dwyer, Devitt, the 2 Recks, Chin, Higgins, Murphy, Oisin Foley, Carty and Mac all seemed to pick up injuries in training or warmups rather than in actual games.

Much like last year... We find ourselves watching Kilkenny lifting Bob o Keeffe again, looking back over stuid decisions that cost us so dearly. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3576 - 12/06/2023 12:12:08 2485793 Link 0 |
We are just not good enough can beat Kilkenny but not near consistent enough and we put everything down to injuries or bad luck .Other teams have injuries and just get on with it especially Limerick and Kilkenny 5 in a row in munster and 4 in a row in Leinster shiws that.

Yup. We have only ourselves to blame collectively. Our record against Dublin and Westmeath is abysmal the last few years. Is this down to complacency? And our record against Galway is just as bad it's like management and players, and supporters too, threw in the towel this year up in Salthill. "Ah sure it doesn't matter if we lose we weren't likely to win up here anyway". And our fans certainly weren't a 16th man in any way against those 3 counties. The number of Wexford fans supporting their team in the flesh was frankly pathetic against Galway and Westmeath and not much better against Dublin. Anyway no point crying over spilt milk. I enjoyed the 2 games yesterday though the hurling wasn't top drawer, either on the line or on the pitch. That's what's really sickening. If we played like we did the last day we could've beaten any of the 4 teams on show yesterday or been very close. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15700 - 12/06/2023 13:03:19 2485815 Link 0 |
