First 35 was dire from Monaghan, yet again they give a less favoured team a foothold in a game they are supposed to win easily. Why is 15 wides acceptable when you are you are favourites? It was your big players doing the messing too.
When Clare took their goal chance it was back to a 4 point margin- not good. Down team would have whipped Monaghan on the weekend no problem. All told however, it was no harm to cool the nonsense talk coming from some supporters after a the Louth win.

Ah here, down will be operating out of division 3 next year, hardly a footballing super power..if were not taking down with a few pts to spare well then there's not much point talking about the Armaghs and Kerry's of this world….

Happy with the win Sunday. Although losing to clare at half time wasnt acceptable wind or no wind. They are not a good team. Second half was better. Winning this game against down is huge as there a realistic shot at a semi final. Monahan favourites yes and should be winning. A defeat and it's possibly Galway or Dublin or worse tyrone or mayo maybe even cork

Not to get ahead of ourselves, BUT, if we do beat Down in two weeks, do we avoid meeting a team from our group in the Quarter final if they come through or is it an open draw of 4 group winners in one pot and 4 prelim quarter final winners in another ?
The way I see it, my predications for teams into the Prelim Quarter finals are:
2nd Tyrone, 3rd Mayo
2nd Galway, 3rd Derry/Dublin (this is too hard to call).
2nd Meath (on points diff), 3rd Roscommon,
2nd Down, 3rd Louth

So if Monaghan get straight through to a quarter final, they could be facing Tyrone, Mayo, Galway or Derry/Dublin. Any of which would be a big scalp to take. We would not fear any of the other 4 teams if draw was again kind to us.
Obviously, if Down were to beat us, you'd be hoping to get Meath or Roscommon then in a prelim.

It's virtually impossible for Donegal to win the group and Mayo to finish 3rd. If Mayo lose and Tyrone win then Mayo are out on head to head. If Mayo and Tyrone both win then Mayo finish top and if Cavan and Mayo both win Cavan would be top and Mayo second Tyrone 3rd

Sorry.. you are right.
In all likelihood, Tyrone will beat Cavan and Donegal will beat Mayo.
This would leave both Donegal and Tyrone on 4 points (Tyrone top the group based on head to head).
This would also leave Cavan and Mayo on 2 points each (Cavan would get 3rd place based on head to head).
so a likely prediction is for Tyrone to top the group with Donegal 2nd and Cavan 3rd.

Bad injury, ambulance called. I believe the player is okay and out of Drogheda.
