Replying To MalsBalls:  "agree - good opportunity to rotate - be crazy not to"
I dont think management have made many mistakes with selections up to now, so I doubt the need any advice from us keyboard warriors.

Heard the hurling management all resigned . The manager had a go at Croke Park for allowing NY in before the game and Croke Park reminded Monaghan they voted yes to NY in Lory Meagher at february congress.

Keep fishing, not sure any of this is true.

I think all the Lory Meagher counties voted against at Congress.

Wouldn't be surprised if the management stepped down as they have been there a number of years but maybe they will give it another go too. Either is possible.

Like yourself, I am entitled to my opinion. Also maybe you need to read my post more carefully.

You don't really have an opinion as it turns when it comes to team selection or anything other than disagree with everyone else

A shame really if management have gone, each of them have had Monaghan hurling in their best interests and were true hurling supporters and advocates. We are rebuilding in the small ball and done well this year in LM. There has been some decent work at underage in county and hopefully this will transpire at adult level. In fairness, over the past 15 years monaghan have done quite well regularly competing with tyrone donegal sligo in the nicky rackard , the aim has to get back there. At club level, the game is in a bad state, you only have to cast back to last years senior final. Club football kills club hurling.

Re clare sunday, monaghan will beat clare who by all accounts have went backwards under keane. It is just a question of how much. Id play a strong team but maybe filter a few in mc nulty perhaps mc carron. Mooney is a better player than garland and deserved to hold down a spot at thus stage. We can all speculate on other lads not getting game time on who done well last year but we are a much improved team 12 months later. Bannigan and co know who is up to it and who is not. Midfield is still a worry and defence, i think down could exploit that but that is down the line.

Another chappie who keeps commenting without reading the posts he is commenting on or attending the games. Anyone who was in Newbridge last Saturday would have seen that McCarville was very effective in his role.

The vote went from the delegate not the management it's what the row was over. County board were keeping Jarlath happy rather than Arthur but said nothing. All came out in the wash

I suppose the most important thing is that we came away with the 2 pts but that first half was giving me flashbacks to 2024. At least we got it together in the second half albeit the wides. Work to be done before we meet the Down men.

The Down game is massive now. A win gives us an extra week off and a quarter final place. Who knows from there, I'd fancy us to take a big scalp.

Yesterday will do no harm as a bit of a reality check to keep people's feet firmly on the ground. I think if we'd played Down yesterday we'd lost so getting a bad performance out of our system was better now than in two weeks when we will need to perform at our best to win. Down deservedly beat us in Clones in last game of the league so our cards are marked. The prize is huge a two week break to a quarter final. Defeat would mean back to Clones a week later v a third placed side and some big beasts potentially in that category. It's all to play for.

No point over analysing a group that's more akin to tailteen cup with the quality of teams in it… the big boy stuff and 1st major test will be in the 1/4 final…

Good result overall but the first half was a hard watch. These are all games for your strongest team so I was happy to see a team very close to the one who played against Louth. Unfortunatley Monaghan left about 2-5 behind them, which would have given them an advantage over Down in terms of results for topping the group.

Mohan is a massive physical presence around the middle of the pitch. Hopefully his withdrawal was was more of a precaution than an indication of a bad injury. He looekd to have been injured in a harmless enough incident from where I was sitting. Darren Hughes had a really good game when he came in though and with McCarville they continued to dominate around the middle which is massively important. No team with a weak midfield is going to get near Same this year. Next game will tell us some more.

First test is against Down… you are a step ahead of yourself as usual.

A Down team with 2 wins under their belt will be a good challenge for Monaghan. The league game against Down was similar to the Clare match. One team not playing with the usual level of edge and intensity against a team that were fighting for their lives. A game like that against Clare does them no harm - warns of complacency going ahead. Down will be no slouches - they are very much a team where the sum of parts is much better than individual perceptions of players e.g. perceived lack of intercounty standard forwards. A quick look at their spread of scorers backs that up. I seen on X from Irish News journo Cahir O'Kane that Laverty has the highest win % of recent Down managers with 72%. But I do think that if Monaghan's intensity and mindset is right , Monaghan will take the win. Winning becomes a habit and standards are increasing in the Monaghan squad - McNulty, Garland and Woods being dropped showed that if you are not performing you get a spot warming the bench.

Great to see Darren Hughes add that bit of bite , experience and physicality when he was introduced. Not that Mohan was playing badly, he was one of the few Monaghan players providing the necessary drive during first half. Hopefully Mohan's injury isn't too bad - it looked like a knock rather than a muscular injury from where I was sitting. Thought Carey did well and great to see him get some Championship experience.
