Carlow played extremely well today. John Murphy, Mikey Bambrick, Conor Doyle. Ross Dunphy and Paddy McDonnell especially effective.
The winning of the game was Doyle's immense two-pointer at the end, under pressure. Dunphy was clever to take the black card in injury time.
We really could have won by more--the ref incorrectly denied us a penalty in the first half. He then wrongly awarded one to Fermanagh.
Today's win--under a local manager--again raises the question of why we went to Roscommon last autumn. Who was responsible for that appointment? Will they be held to account?
I hope Carlow now completely ends the practice of bringing in journeymen outsiders. It doesn't work. Unless we can somehow attract a Mickey Harte, Kieran McGeeney or Jim Gavin type figure--we should stick to our own people.

Very good win up in Fermanagh. I was impressed with sean Murphy mikey bambrick was sublime. Johm Murphy scored a great goal too. There is a nice blend of youth and experience and we have given ourselves a great chance of progressing

A victory over either Wexford or Longford will ensure progress while topping the table would avoid an extra game. Goes to show that this ridiculous outside management teams are no guarantee to success and are realistically money-pits. Cómhgáirdeas Ceatharlach.

Super performance from our footballers today. Long day and not long home but worth every minute of it.
Agree with other posters re the value of having a proper Carlow manager who knows our county inside out and how to get the best out of the talent that is there. We wasted the last 5 years … but enough said.
Agree also re the top performers today. I thought Conor Doyle was a real powerhouse all through but especially in the last quarter when others were wilting. The subs made a difference and freshened things when needed especially Ciarán Moran who used all his invaluable experience very well.
Great also to see three U/20's on the field seeing the game out. Adam Burgess had a great year with the 20's and is a star of the future and has the family pedigree to back it up. I thought John Phiri was a strange choice in defence but just shows what Joe saw in him as he was brilliant, his tacking especially as he turned over loads of ball with clean tackles and he then used his ability in the air to great effect near the end. I thought Paddy Mc was also a strange choice at corner back but again what do I know compared to Joe Murphy as he turned out to be a revelation there and his ability to carry the ball out of defence at pace was a real benefit when we needed it near the end when we had to start going short with the kick outs. That tactical change late on showed good game management on the sideline too as well as we were starting to get cleaned out at midfield.
Every chance we can get out of this group now so plenty to look forward to.

Super result for our footballers today. Not many would have predicted that result. We have a great chance to progress now but we will need another result. I said when Joe was appointed that every Carlow player good enough to play for us would make themselves available to Joe. I think we will get even more players back next year. We have serious pace on that panel & we well capable of having a decent run in this competition. Wexford next & I don't think they will be hammering us again

Super win yesterday I am delighted. I along with others have been saying about the importance of a good manager for many reasons but in a smaller county the main thing is just to have your best players available to you and entice guys in - Mickey Harte in Louth, Andy Moran in Leitrim got immediate impact and success. It creates a buzz and gets guys in, tactics etc less important to genuine good players when down in the lower divisions. Joe is what we needed. I had commented that he would start picking the right fellas from the right clubs who are just better players and have that bit more experience, (received some backlash), none of the weaker players I was referring to featured yesterday and we caused a big upset. This is the importance of a good manager, picks the best players, the best players want in and has actual knowledge of who the best players are, inter county football isnt about handouts. Well done Joe and team, I think we should be hoping for wins against Longord and Wexford now and hopefully will see some big crowds at the games.

Colossal win yesterday!!!
To go from an up and down league campaign with some bad publicity after Cake left to a short turnaround of a result like this is testament to these players and the great manager that is Joe Murphy. Fermanagh were nearly on the brink of promotion to Div 2 this year!
If I am not mistaken, I counted 5 major changes to the team with 2 of those making their first championship starts. That is a big big risk but clearly Joe has instilled belief in this group in such a short space of time and tactically he is looking after the rest.

The point is we have not been getting Mikey Harte's or Mick O'Dwyer's. We have been consistently hiring either inexperienced outsiders looking to get their foot on the managerial ladder--and learn on the job--or journeymen who seem to be chosen to tick a box.
I hope Joe sticks at it for a few years now. We saw clearly yesterday--he knows the players, and he knows the mentality. And he's a very, very good manager.

I agree Joe Murphy has had a positive impact on the team. He seems professional, organized and knows what he wants from the team. He clearly has introduced a bit of pride back into what should be an 'elite' hi-performance set-up. Anyway we will have come in under the radar last weekend, Wexford will be forewarned, hopefully we get a bit of a run going now and we can see where it takes us.
Apart from Murphy now or TO'B before him, are there many 'natives' out there of the caliber and experience to manage an inter county team? The reality is we will need to look outside on occasion, sometimes this goes badly wrong as we have seen. However, is Carlow an attractive proposition to an outside manager when we have no viable internal candidate ?
