A really poor season. Went from being competitive against Div 1 teams to now struggling against Div 2 teams. So much uncertainty and negativity to our attacking play it seems to have eroded our forwards confidence. Looking at Down and Monaghan today couldn't be more different to how we play, much more fluid and better coached.

But the fact he was changing his coaches every year doesn't help. I hope the decision is made fast and get new manager in ASAP. Even just watching the two games today and the difference is crazy in every way. They attack and defend with such intensity. Hopefully the minors can give us something next weekend because right now our seniors aren't going anywhere for a while

Not for the first time shooting efficiency was the big difference from losing to two points to winning by a few points to spare. Cork was out of juice in that match yesterday with 20 minutes to play they were their to be beat, Roscommon outscored Cork 0-6 to 0-2 and if shooting efficiency was better Roscommon would have scored about 1-10 in that period. Yep. Left it till we were 6 points down to start playing more direct as well. Hopefully lessons learned from when Anthony Cunningham stood aside, can't be looking for a manager in winter. If you are appointing someone with very little experience at that level you are better off going with a county man and get good coaches in to help. At least if he's learning on the job it can have long term benefits. If you are looking outside the county you probably should be getting a Micky Harte type who can bring the team up a level. But that is very expensive. FullOfPorter (Roscommon) - Posts: 186 - 15/06/2025 19:29:40 2617826 Link 1 |
Heard Davey say now not the time to decide future will discuss in next few week. I wish him well but board should be working on a replacement and have in place for club championship . Of the 8 teams in Div2, 6 are still in the championship . Let be honest if we did not get Monaghan, Cork , Down and Louth early on we could be very well looking at Div 3 next year. While Down are going down there performance today was of an improved team. . To be honest we would get it hard to beat Westmeath right now Rossgaa47 (Roscommon) - Posts: 12 - 15/06/2025 19:37:39 2617834 Link 1 |
Not surprising our scoring efficiency is poor. A lot of our attacking play looks so laboured and it feels like our players second guess themselves. We don't use counter attacks to our advantage most of the time, first instinct is to turn back and slow up the play. Very little heads up football or fluidity. It is a blessing we didn't get that 2 pointer at the end considering who we'd play next week.

Watched Limerick v Wexford and they wracked up 4-21 and left 2 more goals behind with some great attacking play. Surely our forwards are better no reason we shouldn't be doing that at least or is there a big difference in levels

Who would ya think could make the step up in the county? Too soon for Cian Smith? Rogers? Andy Moran seems to have been a brilliant addition as a coach for Monaghan. You'd need a coach like that involved. FullOfPorter (Roscommon) - Posts: 186 - 15/06/2025 22:29:16 2617940 Link 0 |
