Our starts August weekend.
Obviously don't expect to be in AI Final....

Replying To Rossfan93:  "Find ourselves in a similar situation to last year where we needed a win against Cavan to keep our championship alive. A shootout that day and I can see something similiar v Cork this weekend in terms of a high scoring game with both teams going all out for the win, as both will feel confident about beating each other.

Few key points for me for the game:

-Kickouts need to be sharper, Cork will surely target this as a huge opportunity to turn us over , break fast and do damage. They had great goal chances v Kerry that they squandered.

-The last 10 minutes will be huge, Cork could run out of legs and an influx of pace from the bench could see us over the line.

-Getting Enda & Diarmuid shooting opportunities from outside the arc and leave Cregg /O'Carroll/ C. Murtagh as threats inside.

Hoping for a big display from the lads and another day out!"
And also the same scenario as the game against Cork two years...effectively a knock championship game. Looking like a rainy afternoon as well in Portlaoise. I think this will be a tougher assignment than Meath. I hope we can minimise the unforced errors and take our chances much more efficiently. I don't think there needs to be major changes to the starting 15. Do you keep Pearse Frost in, thought he did well coming on the last day. Or is John Mc and his physicality needed? If Doyle starts who do you replace? Would Ciarán benefit from being an impact sub and start Enda in his position? It's a pity the best rolls for each player aren't more settled come this stage of the championship.

Probably waiting to see who's in the PQFs and where before they stick it on a as a curtain raiser?

What sort of crowd are we predicting? I thought there'd be a bit more appetite for travelling down.

Cork are following their hurlers in big numbers but it won't be the same with the footballers. As for Roscommon, I've rarely seen such little expectation among our supporters. Even if we win on Saturday and it's a 50/50 match I'd say, most Roscommon people expect us to be gone out of the championship in a couple of weeks anyway. No buzz at all at present. Personally I feel more excited about the minors possibly getting to an All Ireland Final than about Saturday in Portlaoise.

Win or lose it all over in a couple of weeks for 12 of the 16 teams remaining.

After this weekend 12 teams will be left in the championship

Next weekend 22nd of June there will be 8 teams left

Two weeks time 29th of June just the four teams left

It's now a question of which of the remaining June weekends we exit the AI Championship.
Very little expectation among the support so I fear it will be a pretty empty O'Moore Park after the hurling folks depart.
I'm not without hope....

Nothing wrong with your maths there but seriously this so-called split season is a bit of a disaster. Any team that wins this weekend and again next weekend will have three matches in very quick succession. Don't think amateur players should be expected to do that.
Perhaps next years format will be better but who knows. I see Jarleth Burns now favours moving All Ireland finals into August and I hope he is listened to.
Best of luck to the team and management on Sunday. They have a great chance in my opinion but will have to go for it from the start and keep Cork under pressure as much as possible.

No buzz at all. Don't know anyone from Cork and they don't seem to have a page on this site so hard to know what the vibe is down there. They will fancy their chances I'd imagine.

Best of luck to the Riscommon team in Portlaoise tomorrow. Did see some incremental improvement in the Kerry and Meath games and hopefully there is more tomorrow against Cork. Hopefully they get good support as now is when they need it.

Best of luck indeed.
Hopefully a decent Ros crowd to encourage the lads.
Cork won't have 100 there.
Both sides haven't been setting the World on fire but whoever wins tomorrow will have a decent season.
Losers will have some soul searching and changes over the closed County season.

Best of luck to all. Hope we build on the last game and up the intensity a notch. Need to improve around the breaks , the likes of Ruane and Daly you would think would be ideal men to fighting for the ball in those areas.

Cork will have circa 1k fans there tomorrow I'd imagine, and I'm expecting a decent performance. We have Connor Corbet back on the bench, which is a huge plus, and I get the feeling he may start. If we can control midfield - which I believe we can - then we'll have a great chance. Your forwards are deadly accurate, which has been the opposite for us recently, so we need to cut off quality ball going in there. We improved against Kerry, but didn't take our chances when presented. However, when this teams' backs are to the wall, they do turn up. .. Cork by 2

BTW, If your lads win I wish ye all the best going forward. Rossie fans have been great anytime our paths have crossed. PUC '23 comes to mind!

Game I'm expecting to go to the wire and who gets the best impact off the bench the likely difference. Rain forecast for the match so that might make it a lower scoring match. Roscommon to win by a point or two is my thinking.

Cork will bring a reasonable support to Portlaoise tomorrow and well in excess of that figure. Like all counties they have genuine football supporters who will support their team through thick and thin. When the Rossies were playing Westmeath in Mullingar, I went early to have breakfast and met a gang of Cork supporters who were doing the same thing on their way to Cavan (I think) that day. Long cross country return journey in the middle of March!
I would be delighted if we get a 1 point win tomorrow and I think we will have to improve again to get it.
Cork gave away two easy goals against us in the league ( Backpass to the goalkeeper from the sideline etc) and missed a few goal chances themselves. The league match will have no influence on the game tomorrow.
However we owe them one for beating us by a point two years ago in the championship. (2023)
If you call yourself a genuine Rossie supporters get yourself to Portlaoise tomorrow and support the team. It might be next January (7 months) before you get the chance again if we don't win.

I am following Roscommon a long time and some of my greatest experiences following the team were where Roscommon won important games in PORTLAOISE.

27th July 2003. Frankie Dolan kicked 13 points in an extra time qualifier win over Kildare. 1-18 to 0-19. How Frankie did not get an All Star that year I will never know.

19th April 2014. Roscommon under 21 team beat Cork by a point in the All Ireland semi final. 1-19 to 3-12. Diarmuid Murtagh wins it with a free at the very end.

7th July 2018. Roscommon beat Armagh 2-22 to 1-19 in a cracking qualifier match. Enda Smith has a stormer.

What Roscommon players will step up to the plate and can the Roscommon team provide another special occasion for Roscommon supporters in PORTLAOISE again tomorrow?
